#37IRS debt is non collectible once you have successfully filed bankruptcy. The important part is filing the returns so that the clock starts ticking. They have 10 years to collect on the debt but once you have successfully filed bankruptcy, it will be considered non-enforceable. You will still be responsible for future taxes but that historical debt gets discharged If you are granted a bankruptcy.Last edited by wombat; 01-13-25, 09:59 AM.Comment -

#41Well my last money was on under 43.5 in the houston game. Thanks to a blocked xp run back for 2 points that never ever happens, it ended on 44. Had some really bad tennis beats as well the last few days. I have nothing. Negative in all 3 bank accounts. Outstanding debts to co workers and family that I cant pay. Title loan on the 22 yead old car. In heavy debt to the IRS, dept of education and the dept of justice in Louisiana. Have 2 lawsuits pending against me regarding cc debt. Owe another 50k in loans that I stiffed over the last few years that call every day and I'm sure I will be getting served very soon by the sheriff. I cant even get money from those bs cash advance apps on your phone for $25.
Hosts wont give me any bonus bets even though I lost 50k last year..diamond on dk, gold on mgm and diamond plus on caesars.
No money for food or groceries. Waiting for my $100 amazon card i won in a contest on here so I can buy groceries.
Need a miracle windfall.
Oh well. Life's a b1tch and then you die.Comment -

#44I have a buddy from the military that has a gambling problem.
Long time ago, I went to his place to play some poker with him on Bodog. When I got to his house, he was playing 10/20 cash games, and had around 2k on the table. After a double up or two, when I thought he was doing well, he showed me that he actually was in for more, and that he deposited around 10k up to that night. I stayed and helped him make plays and we got hot, he got that stack up to around 30k. 20k profit. We had formation early and it was around midnight. I left, and we had basically agreed he would cashout 20k, pay off his 10k, and leave 10k on to continue playing. I think he even said he was going to slide me a few k for helping, but I was just there for the fun of it.
The next morning at formation, he comes up late, looking like a zombie. You know where this is headed.
I went up to him and was like bro? Why do you look like you haven't slept? He went on to tell me that he hadn't slept, and started talking about all the bad beats he took. I was like, well, so you lost the 10k you kept on there? He said no... I lost all of it, and he deposited another 20k and lost it. Altogether, he lost 20k profit, and 30k of credit card money. He was in debt for yearsssssss, all from that single night.
Years later he cleaned himself up, but told me he still is paying off debts from his gambling. Recently, I saw he got divorced and talked to him, and he said he essentially lost all his wife's money from gambling. They just had a daughter together.
I'll never understand how people let themselves go and risk losing all of that, but your story reminded me of my friend. I just recently told him about all my for sure bets that are about to hit and advised him to set some money aside to make money off of them. I just recently posted a guaranteed lock as well.
So, I guess what I'm saying is, while i feel bad for ya, perhaps you should consider betting what you can afford to lose, have fun gambling, and start paying off your debts slowly. Obviously, you've got a problem with gambling, but you are never going to be successful at life if you're a quitter.
Obviously you read, consider reading, "The Richest Man in Babylon.". I think it's a great book that you could resonate with. There's a story in there that talks about a guy that runs from his debts, becomes a slave, and then decides he doesn't have the heart of a slave but that of a free man. He escapes and goes back to his hometown, talks to all the people he owes, and agrees to pay them back. He also saves 10% of all he makes, and does not share that with anyone, even his debtors. It's a good book. GL on your journey!Last edited by ddittie; 01-13-25, 01:15 PM.Comment -
#45Probably too extreme with Jesus thrown in there but I feel for the guy even if he has done this to us a few times. The misery is trying to play to pay bills or get ahead or keep the collectors off ya… I personally feel SBR is a safe zone for gamblers. It doesn’t cost ya a dime to play a Andys contests plus all of us are lifers anyway if you made it here.Comment -

#50Not to pile on the OP but he has been putting it out there for 10+ years and nothing has changed. It is a sad situation but how bad can you feel for someone that seemingly doesn't do anything to better their situation or change destructive behavior?
I'm sure some would like to help him but know full well he would not use any help for food or necessities, he would gamble it away.
He has been given great advice over the years but obviously does not want to change. I bet if he quit cold turkey, he would be feeling a lot better about himself and his life/future in a couple of short months.
Long story short, everyone can give advice and chime in but at the end of the day it is up to him.
If someone wants to turn it around, then they can do it if they put their mind to it and quit the vice they have. As you basically said, its ultimately up to the person.Last edited by hehfest; 01-13-25, 04:46 PM.Comment -
