(NBA) Top 5 trades in League history
NBA trade heats up with the highly anticipated trade of the season on Saturday night. Let's learn about the biggest trades in the NBA history:

...I don't remember Shaq to Miami being that big of a deal.

In 1975, the Lakers acquired Abdul-Jabbar and reserve center Walt Wesley from the Bucks for center Elmore Smith, guard Brian Winters, blue-chip rookies Dave Meyers and Junior Bridgeman, and cash.

This is THE nba trade that still boggles my mind. Alcindor had changed his name to Kareem. The Bucks had won the title a few years before this.

Kareem was right in his prime. Reasons for the trade are still unclear to me. I call it BIG FISH IN A SMALL POND. Kareem wanted to go to a coastal city of NY or LA. He really wanted to be traded to the Knicks, his hometown team.

Another follow-up on this trade. Sorry for the repetition. Just that I always found this to be the most amazing trade, maybe a parallel to the Gretzky trade in the NHL.

This would NOT go down as the most lopsided trade ever. The Bucks did acquire some pieces. Meyers + Winters + Bridgeman were key cops in several Division titles.

*Meyers was a solid forward. Strangely, his sister Ann would become more famous as a top Female basketball player.
*Winters was a dead-eye shooter. Man, he had range. Didn't want to leave him open.
*Bridgeman was even better. He didn't start many games, but he was one of the top 6th-men in the league. True definition of instant-offense off the bench.
...Amazing asterisk on Bridgeman. He did well in basketball...but he did even better after basketball. Guy purchased a string of Wendy's restaurant. He made sure that they were running in top-shape. Guy made a HAUL and now carries a net worth of $600 Million!

I couldn't believe the Moses Malone trade from Philly to Washington. What a horrible trade for Philly.

Jordan to the Barons has always been my #1. Luka and AD doesn't even hit my radar of top 10 trades.

I had to go back and look this one up:
Shortly after the 1985–86 season, Philadelphia traded Malone, Terry Catledge, and two first-round draft picks to the Washington Bullets in exchange for Jeff Ruland and Clifford T. Robinson.[66] Malone bounced back from an injury-shortened 1985–86 campaign, averaging 24.1 points with 11.3 rebounds. He was named to his 10th consecutive All-Star Game and again was named to the All-NBA Second Team.[38] Malone was the only player to finish in the top 10 in both ppg and rpg; he placed ninth in both categories.[67]

...Strange one. Moses averaged 24/12 in 1985-86 but missed some games with orbital fracture.
...He wasn't done. Still had four more All Star appearances in him after the trade.
...Moses was a great player. Rick Majerus used to say that Moses was the only Center in league history who could effectively navigated off the dribble in the paint.

What I believe to be the most lopsided trade in NBA history. The famous Joe Barry Carroll trade:
Entering the 1980 NBA draft, the Celtics held the number one overall pick, but in a pre-draft trade, considered by many to be among the most lopsided in NBA history,[9][10][11] Celtics president Red Auerbach dealt the pick and an additional first-round pick to the Golden State Warriors for center Robert Parish and the Warriors' first-round pick, the third overall, which the Celtics used to draft McHale.

...Remember how Parish had the long gait? Early in his career Parish was viewed as being lazy.
...Carroll goes #1 overall. The Celtics get McHale with the third pick. Wow, what a pick!
...How in the world did Carroll go before McHale? I do think McHale merits mention as the top Power Forward in the modern era. I guess you have to rate him behind Karl Malone.
...His efficiency stats were so good. Led the league in FG% (.604) in BB years.
...Had the variety of fakes and shots in the low-post. And the long arms so would get Off Rebounds and Blocked Shots.

Every time I see Kwame Brown's name I have an instinctual combination of grimace and chuckle. What a bum that guy was. At least we can take solace knowing that he was verbally abused by Jordan

I'm inclined to put it top 10 already, but it will definitely be judged by future results. If the Lakers win a ship with Luka in the next few years it pretty much has to go down as top 5. That's a very big if, of course

Man there’s been so many bad trades in the NBA. Ted Stepien was such a bad owner the NBA had to create a rule for dumb ass owners. He traded away 5 consecutive 1st round picks. Dumb ass.

Hawks traded Bill Russell for Ed Macauley and Cliff Hagan. Russell became a 5 time MVP and 12 time all star

Nets trade four first round picks for aging Paul Pierce and KG. 2 of those picks became Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Then in other trades the same dumb Nets gave away Kyrie Irving to the Mavs and Jarrett Allen to the Cavs. The Nets have had more players play in Finals not on their actual team.

Paul George to the Clippers for SGA, Gallinari, five first round picks, and two more first round pick swaps. Tre Mann and Jaylen Williams were 2 of the picks and they still owe OKC more. Ouch.

Dirk for Robert Tractor Traylor. - 31560 points versus 2085

GS picked Joe Barry Carrol #1 - traded Robert Parrish and the 3rd pick (BOS took Kevin McHale)

β€˜OKC trading Harden because they didn’t want to pay luxury tax

It's funny - the Grizzlies actually got a decent deal here but at the time it was widely assumed that Jerry West had done the Lakers a huge favor. Grizzlies ended up with an all time franchise player but squandered the two picks they got.

The Lakers won two titles with Pau so there was a pretty clear winner.
