DALLAS -- Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong was arrested Saturday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the Dallas Police Department confirmed Sunday.


On Sunday, the Mavericks said they are aware of an incident and have suspended an employee they didn't identify.


According to a statement from the DPD, police responded to a call at 3:45 a.m. CT. The 56-year-old Armstrong and another party, whom Dallas television station WFAA identified as a woman, were arguing when Armstrong allegedly hit the other individual with a gun and threatened to shoot the person, according to police.

Uh, I always look at these situations with a grain of salt. Apparently, they’ve been dating since September, so only 6 months. Looks like she was snooping around his house and on his phone and he kicked her out. Now, did he hit her with the gun or did she conveniently bruise herself? We hopefully will find the truth but I’m never shocked to the grounds women will stoop too to get guys in trouble. Not defending him, I have no clue what happened but I need proof before I hang someone. I don’t trust anyone snooping around and going through text messages.


When police arrived, they found the victim standing in a nearby parking lot beside her father, according to the affidavit.
Armstrong and the woman are believed to have been dating since September 2024.
The incident is said to have unfolded after Armstrong’s girlfriend read a text from another woman on his phone. This prompted the former point guard turned coach to blow up in a rage, striking his partner in the face with his gun and threatening to shoot her with it, according to the affidavit.
“Armstrong then loaded a full magazine into the pistol and said ‘I’m going to shoot you’”, the affidavit read.

Certainly hitting anyone, especially with a gun and especially a woman is wrong BUT anyone ruthless enough to go through your phone, imo is willing to lie and cheat. You can’t trust some like that. What makes you think it was unlocked? And even if it wasn’t, you don’t think that’s a huge invasion of privacy. My wife knows my password but she would never go through my phone or computer. That’s some foul ghetto shit. Most people have the easiest password on their phones. She probably guessed it in less than 50 attempts.
