#381) The French Connection was really a great movie. He worked very well with Roy Scheider (RIP).
2) The sequel FC2 was not nearly as good IMHO.
3) I'm going to go back and watch THE CONVERSATION. My recollection is that it was different but good.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#41Watched this movie again. It's excellent. Hackman plays it perfectly, and it's not an easy role to play.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#47Because they said the bodies were mummified. So they are no signs left of what may have happened. All they had to do is the toxicology reports which take months to try and figure if it was drugs or something else that may have caused it than natural deaths.Comment -

#49Medical examiner is saying that the wife died first. From natural causes. The Juanita virus, which is an infection in that southwest region. Spread from mice. Mortality is like 13-50% and most people don’t know they have it.
Hackman had Alzheimer’s. They think he died after her. He probably walked around the house for several days, a week after her death. He died from heart complications. A heart attack. Crazy.Comment -

With that virus, she had to feel awful, had a high fever, etc. Which is a big warning sign for others. If you have a fever, feel sick, you need to seek help. A nurse once told me that you should never go to bed in pain. Your body is telling you something. She’s seen a lot of people go to sleep and never wake up, even when they think they have a cold. Scary.Comment -
#53I’m surprised that if he had Alzheimer’s, why didn’t they have help? A caregiver most days. I guess they tried to keep it a secret.

1) They were very private. He wasn't in public much in recent years.
2) Some of it had to do w/ his declining physique. He didn't want people to photograph him in that shape.
3) You're 100% right. He surely could have afforded to have a nurse regularly check on him.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -
#54Looked like she died from coming into coming in contact with rodent feces. He died of heart disease and alzeimersComment -

Medicine and such are not in my wheelhouse, so I had to research that.
I have a passion for crime dramas, French Connection is my all-time favorite, and that includes Eastwood's Dirty Harry franchise.
The two greatest car chases in movie history (IMO) were Blues Brothers, and French Connection.
I don't think the casual movie fan quite understands just how great a thespian Schneider was.
He built an entire career succeeding in Jaws and other great dramas.
When Bob Fosse (The GOAT IMO) decided on Schneider to play Gideon in "All the Jazz" all the critics pretty much agreed Schneider can't pull off a Fosse production because of the fact he had zero formal training in music at all, and Bob Fosse isn't just any Broadway/Hollywood producer, he was the best ever at what he did.
(All that Jazz and West Side Story are my two favorite musicals)
Not only did Schneider pull it off, but he also earned an Academy Award nomination for best actor.
How great was Schneider?
You tell me?
Yes, that's another all-time great Ben Vereen with the opening monologue, who knew Schneider had elite singing chops like that?
Not for nothing I love the Vereen 'motorboat' moment at 4:20 of this clip.
This is without a doubt my favorite musical scene of all time, you have to admit this closing scene is very unusual, which makes Fosse (IMO) the greatest of all time.

#58The official cause of death was released today, she died of a pulmonary heart condition which indicates high blood pressure.

Part of the musical mentions Stanley Kubrick, who later said it was the greatest movie he ever seen.
Best lines of the movie…
Dancer 1- Fuk him, he never picks me (for a part).
Dancer 2 - I did fuk him and he still didn’t pick me.Comment -

#60Nashy, that's a great clip. I hadn't seen that one. Roy was a great actor.
The top actors talking about being remembered for maybe one role during their career. And that qualifies as success:
*For Roy, that was surely Chief Brody in JAWS.
*For Gene, that was a longer list. I really think he BECAME the character as:
...Popeye in the French Connection.
...Harry Caul in The Conversation, and
...Norman Dale in Hoosiers.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -
