#3Feel bad for him. Would like to know more about the story:
1) Was he clearly negligent on the accident? If so, my sympathy for him wanes.
2) What was his draft status? Have to imagine he was going to get bypassed based on his legal status.
3) A lot has been said about Brian Kelly. Guy has the Irishman blood. He's not easy to play for, causes a lot of stress.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -
#4Former LSU receiver Kyren Lacy was found dead late Saturday night from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police pursuit, the Harris County (Texas) Sheriff’s Office said Sunday. He was 24.
The Constable’s Office responded to a call Saturday evening from one of Lacy’s family members who said he shot a gun into the ground, according to the sheriff’s office. Lacy left before authorities arrived. When law enforcement tried to stop his car about 20 minutes later, he fled again. The pursuit lasted several miles until his car crashed, the sheriff’s office said.
As law enforcement officials moved to try to take him into custody, they discovered his gunshot wound and a handgun in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the preliminary investigation determined he shot himself before his car crashed, according to the sheriff’s office.
Lacy was pursuing a future in the NFL but was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine after a Dec. 17 car crash near his hometown of Thibodaux, La., that killed 78-year-old Herman Hall. Lacy was facing charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle. He turned himself in to authorities on Jan. 12 and was released on bond.
Lacy’s father, Kenny, turned to Facebook to tell parents to check on their children’s mental health.
“(D)on’t ignore the signs, even if they may seem small,” his dad wrote. “Our lives have changed forever and this will never be OK, but God needed my baby more than he was needed here. This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through.
“This will never get easier, but we’ll learn to live with it.”
Lacy, who played three seasons at LSU after transferring from Louisiana Lafayette, led the Tigers with nine touchdown catches last season. He had 866 yards on 58 receptions in 12 games.
LSU released a statement Sunday, saying: “We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU Football student-athlete Kyren Lacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing.”Comment -
#5Will wait to hear more details. A few things:
1) Don't Drink and Drive. The results are only bad.
2) Mental Health is a real thing. Full props to Kevin Love for bringing this to light. I don't wish Depression on anyone.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?👍 1Comment -
#6Yes, it is. I've been preaching mental health for years.
I get a little pushback when I say mental health and crime go hand in hand.
I work in corporate IT for a life insurance company, crunching all sorts of data, mainly actuarials.
Boring to most. But I love working with numbers.
I know how insurance companies work; they all rake massive profits by overcharging on premiums.
I'm all for corporate and big business; they need to turn a profit, but they don't need to get greedy.
Companies like UHC, Aetna, etc, need to put their profits into mental health care. The sooner you get a problem child/adult off the street and into care, the better.
I can go on forever, but I'll cut it off here.
Do you think if Brenda Ann Spencer (google it) had the right care, would she have shot up that Cleveland schoolyard?
Even Bob Greldorf wrote a song about her.
The dark story of The Boomtown Rats’ ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’
Pay close attention to the lyrics.
(Ironic that I post this on a Monday.)

#7Mental health and easy access to guns is what’s so scary. This kid would most likely be alive today if he didn’t have a gun. Fortunately, he didn’t hurt anyone else with the gun. We need more access to mental health and less guns and prisons.Comment -
#8She said, "I don't like Mondays; this makes it more fun."
She's the first ever in the US to shoot up a school, setting off copycat mass killings like Sandy Hook and Columbine.
Do you mean to tell me that nobody, at any time, didn't realize Brenda Spencer was more than a 'little off'?
Close your eyes, and ask yourself, does this look like a serial killer?

#9Sad news but I think this story has more to do with not wanting to face the consequences of his actions and thinking his life is over more so than mental health. Many young people think their issues/problems are much bigger than they really are due to lack of life experience etc. Not saying Lacy did not have a serious matter on his plate but he still had a full life ahead of him and NFL talent...he had plenty of time and opportunity to turn things around quickly.👍 1Comment -
#10I personally think Lacy had too much on his mind and just snapped, but yeah, Jake, he could have sorted everything out.Comment -
#11Im told he fled the scene and no breathalyzer was done. Witnesses had seen him in strip clubs all night. seems probable he was drunk. Stupid, sad.
Even so, here in Houston he was probably looking at less than a year in jail if any, without any priors. Hell Donte Stallworth served no time. Hearing his father speak on mental health it’s pretty apparent he was going through some things.Comment
