OT- when good actors go bad
This is a Public Service Announcement. The pickins' are pretty slim at the DVD store these days so some people, like me, may find themselves eyeballing a fairly new release called The Contract and thinking, 'Well it's got Morgan Freeman and John Cusack - it must be watchable.'

No. Stunningly weak and full of holes. I would have guessed that these were the type of actors who would read the script before agreeing to be in a movie. Apparently not.

While I'm on the topic I could also warn against Relative Strangers with good actors, Kathy Bates and Danny DeVito.

    Don't do it. Just don't.

    That is all.

80% of the movies made today are garbage.

Don't forget Must Love Dogs. John Cusack is obviously no longer reading scripts or he needs a new agent. Morgan's been in a bunch of crap.

I still love them both, however, and hope to see them in something good every couple years.

Hello John, I have a script.

Really, it's been a while, is it worst than the last one?

John, I don't read them, that is your deal, but to be honest, everyone I talked to says it's stinks.

Long pause, script? What's the pay?

Not much John, your just not there anymore.

Longer pause, Bad script, low money, will it help build back my career?

It's so bad it may be your last film ever.

Tell them I am the man for that part.

LOL! You guys are tougher on John Cusack than me. I like him and quite a few of his movies (although I did hear so many bad things about Must Love Dogs that I haven't seen it.)

I'm trying to think of what Morgan Freeman has been in that is crap. I recently saw something called Ten Items or Less that was head-scratchingly pointless but other than that, I thought he had a pretty good batting average.

Maybe things are slipping my mind.

But sometimes good actors just go astray. Even my man Gary Oldman did The Fifth Element and Lost in Space.

Hey man, you have any parts for old brothers?

Nope, join the old black actor out of work club.

I was a superhero in Shawshank!

You have to be in prison to watch one of your movies now.

Hey, I was driving miss Daisy!

Your career is pushing up daisies.

Narrator? I tell good stories? Clint still likes me.

No man, that might have been your swansong.

I am not going to lay down like all of these other older brothers.

Well, I have some real bad parts, I mean bad.

Screw Shawshank, I want my redemption, I'll do it!

This is for Louis Gossett Jr. For Richard Roundtree, for Danny Glover. I am going to represent.

OK Morgan, whatever you say, you want to look at the script?

No unemployed undercover brother for me. I am going to be the next big old new thing.

Haven't watched a movie in a while. There's one coming out next year which I will probably go see, a new Scorsese flick starring Robert De Niro, he plays an ex-hitman. That should be decent, I love Scorsese.

This topic has got me thinking. I recently rented another DVD largely due to some very respected actors in the cast. Julianne Moore, Billy Crudup, Maggie Gyllenhall. It was called Trust The Man.

'How bad could it be?' I thought.

Morgan Freeman is a disaster in comedies. He obviously does a few to cash some nice checks.

But put him in a drama where he can act, and I don't think many are better.
