Why hockey is not popular in America
they have to listen to American commentary

What a joke, it's terrible. They don't have a clue and make the dumbest comments I've ever heard. Often they're not even 100% sure of the rules.

to yanks with satellite... watch hockey on canadian networks and you will see the difference.

Guy sounds like a winner. No bullshit, tells it like it is as much as he can despite the politically correct establishment.

Didn't know hockey had rules. If it actually has rules then why do they let people fight until they bleed? It seems staged.

Americans are used to a display of athletic ability, that looks good on highlight reels.

                  Hockey doesnt fit the bill.

Also hockey wasnt invented in America, like our top sports were, such as Basketball, football, and baseball(though it has been argued baseball was played in Great Britain B4 America)

The best players aren't American stars. They are Canadian, or from another foreign land.

Their is a multitude of reasons, but Hockey is a big sport internationally just not thriving in America.

Soccer is the worlds biggest sport, but not relevant the US. So maybe we are just behind the curve.

In 1989, he referred to Finnish-born Winnipeg Jets Assistant Coach Alpo Suhonen as "some kind of dog food", which triggered a threat of a law suit from Jets owner Barry Shenkarow

Hockey is not a sport Americans care about. Below the states that border Canada people could care less about hockey and never have been exposed to it. It seems very boring to me.

In the south there is no youth hockey at all. Which is a good thing. We need to focus on basketball, football, and baseball. We do have tennis and soccer though. But no hockey.

Beyond baseball, football, basketball and soccer (all of which I like infinitely more than hockey), I'd rather watch the following sports before I'd watch hockey:

                            Track and Field
                            Cycling
                            Boxing
                            Poker
                            Golf

                                  Yet you watch

                                  BASEBALL

                                  and then

BASKETBALL, the sport with the absolute least athletic ability if I've ever seen it, no defense, just savages waving their arms around

and FOOTBALL, which I like, but also has so many stoppages for many plays that last 3 seconds and involve a guy running straight for 4 yards.

                                  ??????????????????

So let me get this straight.....

Hockey is better than baseball because the puck moves really fast and they skate around really fast?

Name one thing in hockey that is even remotely as hard as hitting a major league fastball or breaking ball.

Americans dont like fast sports cause they are all( well too many) fat and lazy and need that commercial break to go to the fridge to get a beer and make a sandwich. Thats why they dont like hockey .

No I have not. But I only ran track for one season in high school and I never did organized cycling but I'd rather watch those sports than hockey.

The only positive thing I have to say about hockey is that in my opinion they have the best All Star game.

I've never watched a round of golf in my entire life. I have no idea why you think I watch golf.

I only watch the braves every now and then, and its usually when I have money on them or their opponent, or the total.

The NBA is home to the best athletes in the world. I would pay any amount of money to see Derrick Rose in a vertical jump and sprinting contest vs the best hockey athlete. Or the best soccer athlete.

Let me tell you a true story. The University of Georgia football team went down to a south/central american country a couple years ago when they were pre season number 1 (for the life of me I can't remember why they went down there). I think the country may have been Panama, not sure though. The national soccer team thought the number 1 soccer team in USA was coming to their country so they decided to set up a surprise scrimmage. When they saw the massive athletes they knew something was wrong so they were told this was the number 1 American college football team. So instead of a scrimmage, they decided to race, the fastest player from the Bulldawgs vs Panama's fastest player. Length of the soccer field. Bulldawgs put freshman Richard Samuel on the field and he just obliterated the fastest pro player on the national soccer team. The thing is the Dawgs at the time had probably 3 players faster than Samuel, and of course Georgia is obviously not a pro team. This just shows the discrepancy of athletes playing international soccer vs USA athletes playing a sport like football.

I like watching hockey but it is very confusing. A guy falls down or gets hit with a stick or gets pushed on the glass but only a few times is a penalty. And the penalty calling is not proportional to the hit force. So I'm clueless on what's going on. Then you have people jumping in and out from the bench every min so I don't know who is in or out. And the goalie is wearing more padding and protection than the X-Men so it's impossible to score a goal. And then they have the sissy fights where you only have to sit down for 2 min after you beat your opponent worse than a boxing match. Like wouldn't it make any sense if you let the other guy punch you first to get the penalty called and then your team gets a free power play. Why punch back and get yourself sit in the penalty box too?

                                                    Hockey doesnt fit the bill.

Also hockey wasnt invented in America, like our top sports were, such as Basketball, football, and baseball(though it has been argued baseball was played in Great Britain B4 America)

The best players aren't American stars. They are Canadian, or from another foreign land.

Their is a multitude of reasons, but Hockey is a big sport internationally just not thriving in America.

Soccer is the worlds biggest sport, but not relevant the US. So maybe we are just behind the curve.

We're not behind the curve, Houli! It's not American, so fuk it! We didnt invent it, we dont need it

I think hockey is a good balance between a goal mattering and it happening frequently enough. Who gives a fukk in basketball, and in soccer it is everything. Don't understand how you can watch a game for over 2 hours to see maybe 7-8 legitimate scoring chances.

                                                                a) skate anywhere near the speed these guys do
                                                                b) stick handle the puck without even looking at it the way they do
                                                                c) do 'a' and 'b' while circling around defenders, avoiding getting your teeth knocked out (try going on youtube and typing in 'hockey concussion'), and then try and whip the puck past a goalie whose body covers 95% of the net.

Baseball on the surface however looks pretty easy. Tons of fatasses who can barely run the bases without having a heart attack, nor can they keep track of the number of outs sometimes. Of course this requires so much focus you need a mouth full of chewing tobacco to help you focus. (By the way, I like baseball...)

In any event, the difficulty of something does not really define whether a sport is exciting. Fast-paced action, where you do not have to wait very long to see something entertaining, is usually a good measuring stick. How you define action depends how well you know the sport. That's why I can't watch golf I guess.

I have a hard time believing they are better athletes than you find in the NFL and NBA but we will never know.

But hockey? Cmon now. There has to be some good athletes in hockey, but do you really think as fast as Crosby is on the ice he could outrun Rajon Rondo in a sprint on foot? Or could Crosby outrun the fastest player on Spain's national soccer team? I doubt it. I'm speculating of course but I think it's logical speculation.

And another thing, USA almost won the gold medal in hockey (got silver). In fact USA beat the Canadian team that won the gold, and almost beat them in the final match. So even though we don't concentrate on hockey like the Canadians do, we are still right up there with them amongst the elite.

I think hockey is a good balance between a goal mattering and it happening frequently enough. Who gives a fukk in basketball, and in soccer it is everything. Don't understand how you can watch a game for over 2 hours to see maybe 7-8 legitimate scoring chances.

And this is the exact reason you don't appreciate soccer. Because you never watched it growing up or ever played a competitive game.
