SuperBowl fly over cost Hundred of Thousands

Estimates of the 4 jets to fly over Dallas Stadium for the SuperBowl cost the taxpayers over $100,000 and one estimate of up to $400,000. Do you think that is a waste of your tax dollars or money well spent?

ya i heard on the radio WE paid $140million for fly overs this year. I think SBR should get the form and request one for the bash.

What is also ridiculous about this story, which I dont see in the yahoo article, is the planes came from Virgina and flew to Texas. Well they could have flown from northern Texas and saved around 300k...

I guess we could save the money and use it for the following:

-pay for some fat whores WIC and welfare checks so she can raise another fukk up to repeat the cycle.. (just what we need)

-give the money to Haiti, they will give it back when they get on their feet ...

-Or maybe we can use the money to help out the great people of the Middle East, it's not like they are sitting on Liquid Gold and have unlimited cash flow coming in...

Besides, when we do go to war, those plans will fly themselves.. no need to ever fly them and be prepared...

I have worked for the government for 12 years and it amazes me that there is no concern to save money.

at least the fans at the stadium had a good view of it.

          oh wait!!!! the roof

it was an inspirational and patriotic moment I had for .9 secs after I got over the botched National Anthem, when I saw those Jets fly over.

well worth it. God Bless our Democratic government, where all the people have the power and the voice to decide things

Don't the planes have to fly anyway every few days for maintenance? It's not like they are sitting at a dealer's shop. How are our pilots going to get trained to fly the jets if we have them grounded all year long?

the Navy and air force fly all the time for practice. I watched a cargo plane do touchdowns for a whole summer two years ago. I got fukked tired of that plane flying over all day long.

pavy this situation has some twists and turns. For the most part, Active Duty units normally don't fly on weekends, and the flyovers are largely accomplished by Air National Guard or Reserve pilots. There is a ton of training that goes on during weekends, so planes are out there. Not sure why they had to come all the way from Virginia when Navy Fort Worth is just up the road. I've seen it where Virginia planes do training trips to other states and visit units for training. Not sure if these guys were just in the neighborhood or on the way home, or it was a junket just because it was the Superbowl. The military also supports NASCAR with fly-bys every weekend.

There's also the Texas Air National Guard in San Antonio with F-16's. Usually Guard/Reserve do drill on weekends, and when planes are launched there is a whole bunch of personnel that also must be on duty from squadron personnel to maintenance guys, and fire personnel to Air Traffic controllers. It really is a production to get planes off the ground. If they came directly from Virginia they probably also had to have tanker support both ways because the distance is way to far to make it with fuel on board, so that probably added to the cost.

I have seen flyovers in Atlanta at the NASCAR race. They fly from Dobbins AF base. My point is that there are hundreds of training flights done every day by the AF and tax payers pay for these flights anyways so a special flight during the Superbowl is not going to cost the taxpayers any additional money.

What a bunch of Dumb@sses. They have the Lockheed airbase in Fort Worth, I'm sure they could of pulled out a f-22 raptor or two.

I think it is a show of force/strength to anyone who would think or messing with the Super Bowl so I am OK with it.

that is absolutely incredible that we can be in a recession but can perform fly-overs which last 3.1 seconds

They should just get a crop duster dragging a banner. Go Daddy would have bought rights to the banner. It would have turns into a profit instead of a $400,000 waste.

Not as big a waste as the billions we are spending blowing holes in mountains in Afganistan and Pakistan while people who work full time can't afford health care.

If we're worried about the cost of ceremonial flyovers - we're beyond saving.

It would be fine if they'd call up whoever's tax money they're spending that day and let them know it was being spent. At least somebody could be happy about it.

those planes would be flying anyway, so its not like the SB cost taxpayers that much, thats just how much it cost for them to be in the air for that time & the practice, but they would be doing it anyway, so what are you fukin bitching about???
