This should do it. Go to System Preferences->Network-> *double click your connection* should have a green highlight->make sure you are on the TCP/IP tab and click "Renew DHCP Lease"

oops just noticed you are trying to actually change your IP
              disregard this

Assuming you have a dynamic IP address, if the above suggestions don't work you might ultimately have the most luck powering down your Cable/DSL/etc modem. disconnecting from the computer, and then after waiting a bit, powering up back again.

If you find you keep pulling the same IP, increase the time you keep the modem off line. The necessary time will depend on your ISP.

If that doesn't work ... just try calling your ISP and putting in a request.

Press the windows key and the R key. You should get a run box. Type in "CMD" sans quotes. Type ipconfig /release and hit enter. Then type ipconfig /renew and hit enter.

This is why it didn't work for you - ipconfig is one word and there should be a space before the forward slash.

                      .

Hi. Just to clarify the following command as mentioned above (config/release then ip config/renew). This command only resets the local Machines IP Address, not your ISP Address.

                      GL

Agree 100%. He's definitely a true genius, hands down. He should have his own TV show, he'd be better than the Schwab. Ganch, in all seriousness, have you ever considered trying out for Jeopardy? I'm sure you'd get the win.

Your IP address will not change unless you call and request it

I'm assuming you have non dial up?

I never went to DSL or satellite internet because for years and years I got dialup for free.I'm assuming you have cable or wireless internet and don't have dialup. You can get dialup trial offers for free and just have a few of those accounts if you want to come across as having a different IP address.

When you try to cancel after the trial offer on sites like PeoplePC or Netscape they just keep asking you if you want a free month or two.It can go on for years like this.

Just Google internet free trial offer and you will find internet providers that give you free trials.

it really is all up to ur isp. some offer dynamic ip, some only static. since ur asking how to reset ur ip, i guess it's safe to assume that u have the static one. the only way to 'reset' it is by calling ur isp. there's actually nothing u can do at ur end computer-wise. if u ask me, it would be too much of a hassle trying to get a different ip everytime as u will need to call them everytime. but if u really must and u dont mind the hassle, then just keep calling them and tell them to reset ur ip. it will get tiresome and they might question you but then that's where 'the customer is always right' philosophy shld come in. u can tell them straight up that u just want a different ip (and that it shouldn't really matter to them). you're a paying customer, right?!? :P but if u come across some questions, it's best to act stupid and say that ur internet is slow and tell them perhaps resetting/changing ur ip would fix it as one of your techno-friend already tried everything at your end.

ask ur isp if they offer dynamic ip. that shld easily satisfy ur ghosting needs to the max!
