I swear the other night we had a softball game. I play either shortstop or third base... I was at 3rd base the hot corner and the other team had the best softball bat you can buy on the market the "Miken freak".... Well anyway this 1 guy on their team was just hitting absolute ropes all night long, keep in mind I played 3b in High School as well so I am use to line shots coming my way. But I swear I have never had a ball come to me so damn quick in my life. When he came up I had to take a good 3 steps further back than I usually play bc the ball coming off this guys bat was absolutely ridiculous.
I'd love to see MLB step up and help subsidize the switch to wooden sticks. Surely Bud Selig & Co. can afford a few million here and there, get to write it off and also reap the benefit of having a better read on the players for their own scouting department.

I always wondered why college uses metal and pros use wood?
Metal is amateurish, some college players struggle out of the gate making the transition to wood, to me aluminum has a little league, high schoolish feel.
They are even talking about cutting out Maple bats, but I don't think that'll happen in the big leagues.
crazyl, have you noticed how easily the Maple bats break?
Last night I watching the A's play and Chavez kind of half swung at a pitch that was close to stay alive and his Maple bat just shattered. He was actually laughing at the incident.

I've noticed that for sure, even was one bench coach that got sliced in the face with the broken pieces of one. So they wanted the MLB committee to revisit this issue and consider cutting out the maple bats, but most players prefer those instead of ash I think.
