Wimbledon grass is slower than most hard courts nowadays. They changed it in 2001, and the balls have got larger as well.

TV coverage at Queens showed a great demonstration of this - they used Hawkeye to show the average bounce of the ball at the US Open, Wimbledon and Queens. Wimbledon was by far the slowest.

That's fact. Hawkeye collects tens of thousands of ball strikes.

Henman said in 2003 WImbledon centre court was slower than some clay courts he'd played that year.
