Here is how you bet on Tennis
If you know nothing about tennis, this is what you need to do to bet the sport.I have seen lots of posts on here about people that are not familiar with the sport but would like to get in on the bets if there is money to be made. This is what you do

    1) Check the matches for the next day. If a player is not named Federer, Nadal or Djokovic, do not bet the particular player you are looking at if the odds are over -400.
    2) Go to www.atptennis.com or matchstat.com and enter in the player names to see how they are head to head.
    3) Figure out what surface the match is being played on. You would think that it doesn't matter what surface they play on but you would be amazed at how bad some players are on one surface and how much better they can be on another. Matchstat has the players won-loss record for there careers on particular surfaces
    4) If there is a major tournament (ie French Open, Wimbledon, Australian Open,US Open) that occurs the week after the particular match you are looking at, beware that the players mind could be elsewhere and looking ahead. Players don't want to risk injury at a small tournament the week before a major. Could lose out on alot of potential money missing the major.
    5) Always check the retirement rules at your book so you are aware. Some books like Betfair make a game official after one set. Some other books make the match official after one set. Some books make all live bets void if there is a retirement no matter when it is

If you have live betting on your book for tennis, follow these rules:

    1) If betting WTA, a good strategy that many use is to bet against the player that breaks. Ie say Serena williams breaks Venus williams. Your bet at this time would be to "lay" serena or back venus. Depends what type of terminology you want to use. Breaks happen way more often in women's tennis
    2) If there is a woman serving for the match (other then a player in the top 10) bet against that girl.Have seen so many times when a fringe player is serving for the match and totally bottles it.After that player gets broken you can easily hedge out your bet and guarantee yourself a profit and it doesn't cost much at all to make these bets
    3) NEVER EVER BET GAME BETTING. Easy way to lose your mind and a whole ****load of cash.I use to bet on individual games and you have to bet a ton of juice to do so and it is one of the most stressful bets you can make.Trust me, stay away

Thats a good start.I am tired so can't think of much more at this moment. If I think of anything else I will add it.

Good stuff and a great beginning guide, wish I'd have thought of making a similar post. As far as rule #1, as a basic guide you can follow this but once you familiarize yourself with tennis somewhat, and have at least gotten accustomed to many different situations/tournaments you can find value in chalk other than the big 3-4 guns.

Not much value when you have to bet a player at -400 or worse if its not one of the big 3. Putting money on a player like Nalbandian or Roddick at -800 or something like that is suicide.
In previous years it seems that the favorites were hitting at a much higher percentage but this year has been crazy.Lots of collapses and big underdogs winning.
IF I ever bet on a player at -500 or above in tennis, I would do it in-running with the player I am betting on having a set and a break lead. Even then you have to analyze the situation and determine if its really worth paying the big price. I've seen way to many people burned big time backing heavy favorites

Another thing to add to above, there are many tennis forums out there and what you can do is read through them briefly to see if there are any rumors of potential injury concerns for the players in the event.Lots of people make up shit that isn't true but each board has there members that know what they are talking about and can be trusted.
If a line looks to good to be true then dont' bet it.There is a reason
