Being financially successful should come with a sense of responsibility and gratitude for the opportunities that one has been afforded by this country. Not everyone can be affluent in a civilized society. And those that are not are not necessarily there by poor decisions. There are many, many hardworking Americans out there who mightily struggle to make ends meet. Wealth is not acquired without the contributions of others in a society - whether its public schooling and the foundations of that person's education, a culture that allowed for the uninhibited opportunity to pursue their prospective career, employees/apprentices/laymen who contribute the building blocks to the success of that person's career, mentors and pioneers who layed the groundwork in the industry in order to make their career possible, the customers that purchase their products, etc. That person should have the sensibility and humility to appreciate those people's contributions to society and their own financial well-being and attempt to take some of the burden off of their backs.Look here, you hippie fukk......shouldn't you be running around nude at the Coachella Festival this week? There is only a handful of people in the world capable of doing their job, so why shouldn't they make those kinds of salaries? The major difference with athletes/actors is they provide entertainmnet. Nobody needs the services they provide,(Unless you work in the industry) while some CEO's run companies that people depend upon for basic services to live. Think they deserve to make a lot of cash, but some of these pay packages are a little much when put into perspective to what the little man is making. Someone once told me- the higher you go up the ladder, the easier the work and the more money you make. In some instances, believe this to be true.Comment -

On the flip side, there are plenty of fine middle class people who vote republican because they are rational people who don't blame the wealthy for being financially successful.
Obama is trying as hard as he can to play the class warfare card to try and win re-election and while this strategy will most definitely garner even a higher percentage of the vote of the small-minded simpletons, it will cost him plenty of independent votes as he's acting like a beggar with a tin cup in his hand.

There is one easy way to solve all of our country's deficit problems and somewhere down the line, its going to happen:
Legislation will eventually be passed in the form of a "net worth" tax which will tax an individual's entire net worth a designated percentage each and every year while they are alive (starting with net worth's say $10,000,000 and above).

I vote republican. I don't expect handouts. I don't expect the government to take care of me. I expect the distribution of wealth to be disbursed accordingly to an inflating market per the corporations. There is a reason that big oil execs are profiting in great figures because they simply pass the buck down the line to the consumer. The consumer is battling inflation with dwindling interest rates and skyrocketing fuel costs. The fuel costs are passed down the line from the farmers to the transportation to the grocers and finally with the consumers. The consumers are the small business owners too who are hurt in the pockets. They aren't able to afford to pay their employees because the cost of living has since increased. At some point wages can't remain stagnant and compensation of the deserving needs to take place. The initiative needs to start from corporations not the government. Crack downs on welfare programs needs to be implemented and more accountability needs to take place.
But I am quite the liberal, I expect the world to be given to me while I buck dance and lick boots of CEO's. I guess that is why it is 5:45am and my face is buried in a text book preparing for an exam in 4 hours. The university I am attending is only to make myself look better in social situations, it is not because I want to make economic advancements for myself. Oh, btw, I am paying for my tuition on my own, making ends meet trading hours for dollars without taking social handouts. Because I am so liberal I refuse to join the rest of the students in regards to obtaining welfare. I am so liberal that I believe in advancing through education instead of believing that I should be given a job.Comment -

Deuce, reducing the salary of CEO's is NOT going to solve any of our country's problems as there just isn't enough of them floating around to make a difference.
Also, becoming a CEO of a major company is extremely difficult and you have to be incredibly talented and totally work driven to achieve the position.
As long as the business is in the private sector, they should be allowed to pay their CEO"s whatever they damn well please. Now the CEO's of Government Motors and all the businesses that got bailed out by the government, its a whole different story.
If our country's problems were small enough where raising taxes on the millionaires and billionaires would do the trick, I would have a completely different view on taxes. However, tax rates being too low are NOT the problem. Its the out of control government spending that needs to be dealt with.
EVERY SINGLE TIME the republicans and democrats have comprimised on various issues over the past several decades, the republicans give up things they want in return for promises made by the democrats to overhaul runaway government spending and the democrats NEVER do it. They always give reasons like children will starve, people won't be able to go to college and when there are heated standstills, the democrats talk about closing all the parks, etc.
There are overlapping government agencies everywhere and the democratic party just refuses to downsize an extremely bloated government workforce with benefits you wouldn't believe.
Until the democratic party is willing to go through all government expenditures and make the massive spending cuts that are needed, I will continue to oppose tax increases on anybody. Its time for the federal and state governments to start making some real cuts and both social security and medicare have to be on the table as either of those democratic party disasters will bankrupt this nation all by their lonesome.The liberal politicians in the California state legislature have bankrupted the state.
