There's a lot of controversy about this chop that happened in a Ladies event last week at the Wynn. When they got down to 15 players they all decided to chop. They had played for 11 hours with no dinner break, it was late and they all had a tournament to play in the next day.
The chip leader got over $9k and the lowest payout was over $4k. It was a $600 buy-in.
Full disclosure - I am female.
My thoughts vary on this, but my first instinct is that I wasn't there and didn't play. So if they all agreed then I have no problem with it.
With that said, the biggest chop I ever did was a final table. I was the chip leader but didn't have an overwhelming lead. They offered me better than an ICM chop for first, it was not a huge tournament, and my grandson had called me and was in a very bad place emotionally. I insta-chopped.
Other than that I don't mind 3 and 4 way chops - especially when there are strong players left. If it is late and I am tired I am likely to agree to a chop that I think is fair to me. I am a recreational player, not a pro. If it is more than 3-4 people I would have to be the short stack to agree in most cases.
I can't think of a circumstance I would ever chop before the final table, but I wasn't there.
I can definitely understand a really strong player never wanting to chop and respect that. There are times I think I am the best left in the tournament, but not often to be honest.
In this case JJ Liu was one of the 15 players left who chopped. I have played with her multiple times and she is an excellent poker player and her successes reflect that.
