I remember watching this on ESPN when it aired. Watching some of the hands now I'm amazed at how tight Gardner played.

You bet, Ian. Yes, Gardner was tight. He folded 99 in a flip situation. And he (correctly) folded TT in the 3-way pot.
...I think TT is very close to a Fold/Call in that spot, just b/c of 3-way action. As it turned out, that got him 2nd instead of 3rd and made him a good bit of money.
...Gardner later shoved a Flush draw into Qx. Standard spot, IMHO.
