    1981 WSOP - video

Ungar was good. But you gotta get lucky, too.

He was down to two outs on the KK vs AQ hand. Poker is so finicky:
*Catch a card...and history will deem you to be a Legend.
*Be on the opposite end...and you're forgotten about.

Same thing with Hellmuth in 1989:
*He folded TT when he would have gotten it in good versus AJ/99. Fold saved him, as he would have lost.
*On final hand vs Chan, he had to dodge a ton of river-outs.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

Chucky, I used to have a bunch of these on DVD.

Did you know that they used to give the winner their weight in silver? The year that Russ Hamilton won, he tipped the scales at over 300 pounds.

Stu was a speed freak, that's no secret.
He used to go up to four days straight playing strung out on speed.

Stu was fearless, I loved that about him, he'd treat 3-8 off suit like a pair of kings and have you believed he actually had the kings.

Speaking of 3-8 off suit, Scotty did it to perfection too.
Norman Chad on top of his game too.
"Scotty just bet 100,000 dollars on two cards that even the Salvation Army would reject"

      Classic

Good stuff, guys. Same thing in 1997. The year that Stuey was re-born.

Watch the 7-outer that he catches on final hand. Three titles, and at least 2 of 3x he was drawing very thin:

Ha-ha. Did NOT know that, Jake.

That is some serious dinero. Would be something like $150,000 in today's dollars. 30*16*300.

Any Ungar fan should read the Nolan Dolla book. Dolla lays it out. Mike Sexton talked about him and said that he was "...a winner in Poker but a loser in Life."

Not taking jabs at him. He had problems. If I have my facts right, he took the death of his adopted son really hard and wound up re-lapsing.

I've heard the stories. He was studious and actually clean @ gambling. But he had a very bad drug addiction.

Go to 44:00 of this video. Gabe Kaplan asked him a pretty honest question. There are a lot of things baked into that question.

44:54 Stuey probably DID owe Gabe $300! When he was coked up, he would borrow $$ from ANYONE.

Wow, some great videos. So sad how Stu ended up, it's a shame he couldn't beat that addiction.
