Hollywood Casino - Poker Room - West Virginia
Has anyone been since they opened up at the beginning of the month?
If so, what did you think?

I live in Baltimore and am looking to take a trip up there this weekend.

I am also in Baltimore, and curious as well. I have been seeing the commercials pretty often the last few weeks.

How are the games in WV? I've heard that the games are easy, but the rake is high.

They rushed just to get a few pits open... the minimums are crazy high because the demand is high and the supply is low. I'd personally wait until at least September.
If you're in Baltimore i'd drive the extra hour or so to Atlantic City.

Thanks for the heads up JMU. Sounds like at least for the next couple months I am better off sticking with the 3 hour drive to Borgata.

Thanks for the heads up JMUplayer.
I might still just take a ride up on the bike this weekend with my buddy and check it out. It's a decent ride and if it sucks, we'll just hop back on the bikes. If we do make it up there I'll report back.

Off subject, are you at JMU now, or what class did you graduate?
                    I graduated '03.

Didnt get a chance to get up there this past weekend, and by the looks of things in that article it's a good thing I didn't.
I'll probably stick to the longer drive to AC for the next couple months until they get the kinks worked out.
JMUplayer, thanks for the heads up on the article.

If anyome goes, report back and let us know how it went.

Timed rake (or time charges as they are known) although not the norm are pretty standard elsewhere in the world.

I'm in Australia and the ridiculous situation we have is that Casinos charge both a rake and a time charge. That is they take from the pot, as well as charging you on the hour in most places. There is a lot to be said for the competition in Vegas, Atlantic City, and Macau.

So, this past Fri. my curiosity got the better of me and I went up there.
I got to the casino around 6:45 and got my name on the $1/$2 NL list. At 7pm there were about 40 people on that list. The $2/$5 NL had about 25 on the list. I can't remember the lists for the other games.
It took about an hour to get called and seated. In the meantime I wandered around the casino to see how it was. As stated in articles and other reviews there are few tables and high minimums at those tables.
If you have been to Charlestown Races before, the poker "room" is right behind the indoor viewing area of the track. I put room in quotes because they just converted a hallway into the poker room. You can tell they threw these tables wherever they could, as soon as they could, to get people playing. They currently do not have a cage. Where the cage will be is unpainted dry wall with wires and such hanging from the ceiling.
Certain drinks are free: Rail liquor and Natural Light beer. Everything else you have to pay for.
After settling in at the table, I was able to cash out a profit of ~$500 in the course of 4.5 hours.
It definitely isn't on the same lines a some of the AC poker rooms at this time, but will get there eventually. It definitely has potential and I think needs a little bit of time to develop.
All of that being said, I will be heading back with my buddy this Fri.

If anyone has any questions let me know.

Edit: Meant to also say that the dealers need to get better. Some were great, some were absolutely terrible. In the 4.5 hours probably saw about 15 dealer mistakes.

Aren't poker rooms always better if you win some cheese?

I have heard the one in nitro/charleston is actually very nice.

I have to agree with the other posts. It's kinda weird and dark definitely just kinda shoved in a "hallway", no cage, you may be carrying three trays of chips all the way downstairs and throughout the casino. The rest of the casino is nice though.
