Poker at the rio LAS Vegas
Ive recently played at the Rio in their ring games. They have a daily stake of 1,3 no limit poker. To much of my suprise the poker room was tiney with a very noisey envirement.Along with realy old tables wich they only have six tables.Although the rooms was realy cramped i still managed to turn 200 into 780 in just two hours.I was their in september durning the holliday so i was able to play with alot of fish making it realy easy to take their money.Thers one casino close to the rio that rely cares abput their poker players the New Orleans caino and hotel.Strongly recomand this establishment to everyone.

I do not recommend posters take OP's advice. First off, the Rio poker room does not get a lot of tourist traffic. Since it's not on the strip it doesn't get walk-by traffic, and the hotel itself has well publicized occupancy issues. The room also, along with all the other Harrah's owned poker rooms, charges the highest rake in Vegas. Besides the obvious problem caused by high rake, the rake structure alienated the base of local players who sustained the room. In order to get the locals back, the room has resorted to using the jackpot drop to shower local grinders with hours-based promotions that most tourists can't take advantage of. So not only is the rake high, but the games suck due to all the grinders. The room also tolerates angle shooting, which is a huge turnoff to me.

As far as the Orleans is concerned, the room is exceedingly well run, especially on swing shift. The room has a strong locals base due to a $3 max rake and a popular bad beat jackpot. Dayshift is notorious for attracting a lot of tight and angry retirees, but on swing and graveyard shift the games can be quite good. Even though I like the Orleans poker room personally, if you're a tourist staying on the strip there's no reason to leave the strip to play poker at the Orleans. Strip games are generally better than offstrip games.

To add to Ian's comment, the only time you should be playing at the RIO is during the World Series of Poker. That's basically the only time there's a ton of tourists playing there. I love the Orleans as well, that was actually the first place I ever played poker in Vegas. But the best games will be at the strip casinos with the rich/drunk tourists. Any of the strip casinos will do, so I typically just play at whatever strip casino I'm staying at.

Seriously, you have not been to Vegas?? It is the best! The Venetian is a really nice hotel and a really good poker room.

              Cheers.
