I told you I wasn't judging the kid, I don't know him.

Impossible to compare what I'm saying to Em like that, because Em could be one of the roots of my comparison.

I don't fault the guy for getting his, it's really more of indictment on "drill rap" in that he can get his like he does.

What I'm judging is the character he's going with and like I said, nothing original about it. Slim Jesus, is a tool. If he was being a cover band, fine, it's a nod, or better yet, it could be a parody, because it's a joke.

For decades I've believed hip hop and rap were the most innovative ongoing music, even if they sampled 80's and earlier. Then we get to drill rap. Just the same recycled shit over and over and fools being proud because predecessors get shot.

Drill rap doesn't seem to innovate, it stops there. Like I said, I don't know the kid, and it's just as much that if he wants this industry, he has to expoit what it gives. He can't even exploit irresponsible gun culture in an original way. He's a dikkhed for even trying in this era.

Slim Jesus is a tool in every aspect. He got to second base because of the beats but that really says nothing. I can do that just as well with the stock app on my iphone.

At some point, one must ask, is art imitating life or is life imitiating art? If the first, then you nailed it. It sucks that's all they have to rap about. But somewhere along the way the discussion has to wonder whether it bleeds into the latter, at the very least for a potentially small sector of an overlapping population.
