The reasoning was if Schwarber does put one down it's an automatic single being that side of the infield is vacant.
Thing is you're asking Schwarber to do something he doesn't do, bunt.
I would have been willing to bet a million dollars he's never bunted for a hit in his career, so I researched it, he has one

If a Victor Robles were at bat. then maybe I could defend a manager's decision to bunt for a hit it that situation, but Schwarber doesn't have that bat control, the speed, and most importantly the experience of a Robles.

I would say the chances of Schwarber being successful there about one in a hundred, and even if he were, Phillies chances still would be less than that.

Now next season, that clueless Manfred is going to eliminate the shift, further destroying the game of baseball.
Manfred in his infinite wisdom just eliminate pitching all together, start every inning with the bases loaded, and have batters just hit off a tee, like eight year old baseball, That's what he wants, baserunners and scoring.

Not for nothing, Schwarder has 3238 plate appearances, one bunt single.
Charlie Blackmon is the only power hitter in the game that has solid bunting skills.
