Its really not even that different than most places all the time.

You get caught the police give you a PTA you tell the judge your sorry and basically nothing happens.

Actually the whole state of California penal code 488 says thefts under 950.00 is a misdemeanor.

Used to be 400 several years ago. I believe this price changed in 2011

So it’s been that way for a while now.

However that all being said, if police can prove they entered the store with intent to commit a crime it is then a felony. Burglary 459 of the California PC
