If you guys had ever seen a police budget you would be so sickened by how much money is wasted. Check out your towns budgets and the police budget and dive into how the money is spent, you’ll be shocked. Don’t read a few articles and think you know all the answers. The current police model isn’t working and hasn’t for many years.

I believe the complete disbanding is an overreach unless HCSO is going to increase patrols, however as I've been championing for years here, policemen are an antiquated industry and it needs to change.

This is, at the very least, a start....

A desensitizing of minor offenses is exactly what I've been calling for on this board.

I wish the City well and hope the citizens respect this move by not doing more violent crimes. If that occurs, the experiment end.

It doesn’t sound as good in context under the current situation. Exactly the same reason that pro police who don’t want change are saying they are going to eliminate all police forces and cities will turn into criminal safe havens. People only read headlines, they don’t take the time to get in depth because they don’t care enough.

In 2014 and 2015 less policing was done in nyc as a response to try and prove that if cops weren’t policing crime would go up and it actually presented the opposite. There were fewer incidents.
Police have a horrible success rate at solving murders, handling domestic and rape cases.
Aggressive policing tends to add more social disruption which can lead to more crime.
And with all this most police budgets have tripled in the last few years
This is too many holes to not think the police need to be less funded and changed.

I have always been a critic of police because I've worked side by side with officers, out of the same building for 20yrs, and have seem & heard a lot.

But this is a horrible idea.

Just need more good cops to bring balance to the force.

With less or no policing how can you even track crimes being committed? Who are the offenders or inflicted since there will be no arrests made? Your model of NY having less crime is way off.. When there is little or no policing then obviously there are less arrests being made. Doesn't mean criminals stop committing crimes magically.. Just means they aren't getting caught and the incidents aren't being reported anymore..

its not really that hard to imagine since dallas police did something similar to a white man in 2016. tony timpa called the police for help because he was off his meds and having a bad time with some drugs. they knelt on his back for over 13 minutes while he was cuffed and legs zip tied. the cop continued to kneel on him after he lost consciousness and they even gave him a powerful sedative while he was unconscious. it was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner and there is video of it. the only punishment that i read was a couple of them got reprimanded for unprofessional conduct because they were making fun of him during the incident.
