Not that approval rating says right or wrong anyway. But it really is a good thing. The 70+ rating was widely pointed to in the foreign media as proof that the American people want Trump to backstab and attack your allies, so there was no use hoping for sanity to take back over.
At least now the foreign media is starting to say the American people might stop him going too much further. Again, he put in reforms that stabilized the economy, we’ve only had 4 recessions start since 1981 compared to 7 from 1953-1981. 2008 wasn’t the fault of Reagan, it was caused by the widespread belief that housing would perpetually rise. There’s a scene about 25 minutes into the movie where Michael calls Lawrence to tell him about the position he took shorting the housing market and how he has to pay out premiums. Lawrence said, “You mean to tell me we pay premiums until the mortgages fail? In other words, we lose millions until something that never happened before happens?” That was the conventional wisdom leading up to 2008, that the housing market was free money, and people positioned themselves accordingly. When housing tanked, they got hammered.
I never said labor doesn’t create wealth. In this day and age though, labor needs wealth to get the tools and equipment needed to work. 2008 wouldn’t have been anywhere near as bad if we didn’t have the Fed dropping rates to 1%. The market should set rates, not the Fed. The Fed also should have been the ones to bail out the banks, since that’s what they’re there for. 2020 was due to a communist country, probably had a leak out of their lab. Capitalism had nothing to do with that. History couldn’t be clearer, when you have a lot of private property rights and individual freedom, you have a lot of average people with relatively high standards of living.
We had the S&L problem during Reagan, but that was due to over regulation, not under regulation, and the high inflation, which Reagan and Volker beat.
