Fuk. Guy seemed to live forever. Been talked about forever.

Best Pete Rose story that comes to mind. RHP Jim Bouton had just written the book "Ball Four", and the players weren't happy about it. Bouton described the players as:
        *Un-educated
        *Heavy drinkers, and
        *Womanizers.

Any of it un-true? Didn't matter, the players didn't like the perceived invasion of privacy.

Switch-hitting Rose bats left-handed versus right-hander Bouton. Clean hit into the gap. Stand-up double.

Bouton is walking out to get the ball. About ten feet from second-base.

Rose was known to be rough around the edges. ROSE: "Fuk you, Shakespeare."

I used to do that head-first slide in Little League b/c of Rose. Hurt more than I expected.

                                        RIP pete.
                                        amazing talent.

                                        however,
he signed the documents from A. Bartlett Giamatti accepting the lifetime ban.

here is why even betting On your Team is bad.

you will leave a pitcher in too long or put a guy in as pinch hitter in a game you should let go of because you have to think long term not short term as a manager.

you simply cannot fukking bet on the game period end of story.

he did Not deserve to be anywhere near the HOF.

simple rule. do Not bet on the games when you are a player or manager. period.

unpopular decision, but the Correct Decision.

baseball and i am right. You are Wrong.

The rule is stupid and outdated and it should be eliminated. If betting on one's team is so bad because one might strategize differently when betting as opposed to laying off, then betting uniform amounts on one's team every game should be acceptable.

One other Rose story. Game 6 of the 1975 World Series:

*Pete was notoriously talkative. Almost non-stop.

Game goes into extra innings after Carbo hits the three-run homer. It's a classic. 3x Rose says "This is the greatest game I've ever played in."

                                                    1) Covering 3rd base, he says this to Dwight Evans when Evans is standing on 3rd.

                                                    2) Top of the the 12th, Rose goes to bat. Fisk is behind the plate. "Fisky, can you believe this? This is the greatest game in the history of baseball. And we're playing in it."
...Fisk said that he really was nervous with the season on the line. He claimed that Pete's words relaxed him. Bottom of the 12th, Fisk hits it out off the foul-pole.

                                                    3) After the game Rose tells Sparky Anderson "That's the greatest game I've ever played in." Sparky tells him that he's crazy. Pete says "Don't worry. We'll win tomorrow."
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

you simply cannot fukking bet on the game period end of story.

unpopular decision, but the Correct Decision.

baseball and i am right. You are Wrong.
I get your point but I look at betting on your own team much differently. How many times have you seen coaches put a friendly wager with an opposing coach. Or athletes betting each other. It’s believing in yourself. Now I would be mad if he bet against himself and his team but he is not the only guy that bet on winning. I have no problem, especially in those days of leaving a pitcher in a game if you believe they give the best option to win. No one cared about pitch count.

Rose loved to play blackjack. I used to see him all the time at the Crystal Palace in Nassau. Very down to earth guy. Mild mannered, likable guy. Yes, he made a mistake but haven’t we all. Betting on baseball did not take away his accomplishments on the field. Shame on MLB for not honoring him while he was alive.
