As long as you know you can trust your local bookie, it's much better than dealing with big books like Bovada. Those books are safe of course, but too much hassle signing up and waiting for payouts. My guy comes by every week and we settle up.

I wonder if I should resurrect the stiffing thread, knowing that books and players stiff

books take advantage of players in various ways, and overextend on credit often, yet complain about stiffs

Most locals use a third party to operate a website for you to bet online on.

You are still only relying on your local contact to get paid though. Many horror stories of people being tricked into trusting due to having a website only to find out later the site operator and everyone else does not care at all if the local decides to just rip you off.

If you want a website to bet on be smart and use a real online bookie that will pay you for sure.

Are offshore book s safer than a local with a website?

Your best shot is if you have a friend who uses a local and can "vouch" for him paying up and collecting on time for that case. Stay with big names in offshore books.
