At this point just a reliable estimate when a working wagering platform will be ready for betting users. (as opposed to people all about the crypto)

It was looking like Q1 2018, but there's another update coming around the end of this month where they will try to give us a better estimate. Hopefully it doesn't get pushed back to Q2. If it was just another centralized crypto book, they could just crank one of those out easy or license the software for very cheap these days.

Development is always boring and usually full of delays too, hopefully they can get through this soon and get the focus back on betting. We've been trying to get the dev team to listen more to all of the experts and long-time bettors, it's definitely not easy getting the two sides to work well together.

Yes, the time and energy that appears to be going into it is encouraging.

Preview of the community-built temporary betting wallet, which is coming very soon. It's based on the waves wallet, and there will be a testing phase where only test tokens are used until everyone is confident that things are working properly. I'm pretty excited about this one, fees will only be 1-2% which will help cover the transactions and development costs. This will allow us to bet with our wgr while the mainnet betting is being developed.

More info about the temporary betting wallet can be found in the #bettingbeforemainnet channel on the Wagerr discord server. The join link for this is below -

The test version is out now, it doesn't use the real tokens yet though until everyone is confident that it's working properly. The real version will also have a downloadable wallet and a vastly improved interface. This is just a temporary interface so it doesn't look all that great yet, it's more about testing the functionality for a week or two. You don't have to import your actual Waves wallet into it either, you can just create a new test wallet for now on there. It would probably be more secure to have two wallets anyway, a storage wallet and then a betting wallet with only the tokens you plan to bet with.

Also note this is a community-built version, and not the actual project. We all wanted something temporary to bet with while we wait for betting to start on the main project, which was pushed back to sometime in March. However the network will launch a bit earlier on Jan 15th to allow people to start staking to earn some returns and give people time to spin up their masternodes, to make sure everything is stable before betting starts.

If you have any trouble with it, just let me know

Updated roadmap can be found here which shows how things will be built in smaller, more manageable sections along with some nice extras(fantasy sports, esports, affiliates/referrals, maybe more later?). They've been expanding the team over the past few months, and now most of them have gotten familiar with everything and are working hard. The community around it has been growing too, which has been really cool to see. Wgr has went from under 6c about a month ago to over 30c currently, those who held are probably pretty happy now. It's still very risky though, as with any cryptocurrency...maybe even more so now since there is always the possibility of a correction after this most recent price spike.

Open testing is still on pace to begin on or shortly after Jan 15th, along with the main network launch of just limited features for the first few months. I'll have a lot more info to share about all of this over the next few weeks. Sadly the initial h2h betting exchange likely won't be released on mainnet for a few more months, but we will all have plenty of time to learn and try everything out on the testnet before risking anything.

As always, I'll try to be around to help as often as I can

This looks promising. Just ran across this for the first time and signed up. Not certain that I can do anything with it at this point though. However, the road map seems to hint at a usable platform in the coming months. Keeping an eye on this one.

One of these days one of these platforms will be the killer app...please keep us posted and I'm happy to to do any beta testing and discuss promoting it.

From experience with another exchange-founding project I'd suggest, at least at the beginning, only opening markets two hours before events. The number one complaint newbie exchanges get are about liquidity, and in thinking back on the project I was involved with I often wish I would have tried to manage expectations by only opening the window during peak hours.

That's a pretty good point about the liquidity, and would be an easy to implement solution if it happens to start off slow for whatever reason(s). For beta testing, Jan 15th is the day to watch.

Lotuspod can you help me parse this from the website?

The network fee for H2H bets is 2 percent of the payout. Half of this fee is distributed to the Oracle Masternode network for processing the transaction. The remaining half gets automatically destroyed.
If you and I bet a $100 at +100, would the "payout" be considered the profit ($100) or the entire amount held by the network ($200)?

Also I don't understand the part about half the fee getting destroyed. Is that just a development thing, or is it something that would carry over if the network gets up and functioning? Why do it that way?

Just the profit(unless I'm misunderstanding somehow), we absolutely need to have competitive fees compared to the other books/exchanges. The bettors on the team would be nagging the devs and others 24/7 if fees ever seem too high, we're already going to try and review things from as many angles as possible to keep fees as low as possible for us all...without sacrificing quality of course. We understand that even a slight movement up or down in fees has a huge difference between having a lot more long-term winners/losers, and we want to be supportive of winners. I've been restricted from one of the centralized networks for simply winning at poker fairly, so I personally know how badly it feels.

Half the fee being destroyed will help promote a deflationary economy at first, and help the price reflect the actual usage. It will also help to (hopefully) keep wgr prices somewhat more stable that other cryptos...making it a bit more ideal for bettors than the average cryptocurrency. Think of it this way - when wgr prices get lower, a $100-sized bet is more actual wgr which = more wgr fee / more burn. This will eventually reduce supply and help to bring prices back up to a point that better reflects activity. The reverse is true also, if wgr supply is low enough to be at unhealthy levels then the wgr being minted from staking will help add some much-needed supply which I'll try to explain more below.

It is also mainly there to balance out the staking rewards, which mint a small % of wgr over the year for users who simply stake instead of trying to run a masternode(s). Staking essentially lets users earn a bit of extra wgr over time, based on how much they stake. They still retain control over it and can cancel at any time, so it's safe and nobody else except you (or anyone who knows your seed phrase of course) has access to it.

Users staking some of their wgr is very helpful in securing a Proof-of-Stake network, even Ethereum has been wanting to move to this type of system for quite some time now. I'll leave a few links below from a couple of the brightest minds in crypto regarding Proof-of-Stake and blockchain governance, since these guys explain it so well. Much of it is written in ways that even fairly non-tech guys could likely gain a lot of insight that not that many tech guys even have yet.

Systems like Ethereum (and Bitcoin, and NXT, and Bitshares, etc) are a fundamentally new class of cryptoeconomic organisms — decentralized…

This post describes why blockchain governance design is one of the most important problems out there, its critical components, current…

Some of these details may seem unnecessary, overly complex, or even downright gimmicky - but much of it comes from hard-earned lessons shown by former and current projects. Besides that, much of the details are essentially only just initial guidelines for the masternode network. For those who plan to run a masternode(s), I strongly recommend trying to learn all you can that relates to them and just decentralized governance in general because there will inevitably be some difficult decisions that arise as we continue to grow and expand.

I cannot stress enough how much legitimate power/control the masternodes (and therefore those who run them) will have in this network and the project in general, even just through their consensus alone. I suppose a rough analogy is that we're just building and maintaining this ship for you guys to pilot. No more miners price-gouging bettors for insane fees or the alternative of long wait times either, since users/masternodes will oversee this in a much more time and energy-efficient manner that doesn't revolve around buying expensive equipment and leaving these power-hungry devices running 24/7.

Lastly, a reminder that our official Discord server has gotten quite active since I set it up a few months ago and there will most likely be a wealth of more technical information/discussion information in the #masternodes-oracles channel leading up to and after Jan 15th...along with some good info already. For the traders, I added a crypto price bot that pulls info and even candle graphs directly from Coinmarketcap for Bitcoin and all of the other cryptos with just a simple short text command.

If the platform tests out well, will it then be turned into something that allows users to bet Bitcoin with each other? I have the same question as Optional. What's the target date to turn this into something that real bettors can bet real money with?

They're looking at late Q1 this year for h2h/exchange-style betting, if I had to venture an early guess at this point I'd say late March. After that they will continue to add on improvements, notably the direct on-chain betting around the end of 2018 that will be similar to how it works with traditional sportsbooks.

It's important to remember that the current roadmap can be looked at more as guidelines, rather than everything set in stone. It can still change and we can probably expect to see additional things added for 2019 and beyond.

Yeah I'm not sure I understand the crypto token side of this, but it certainly doesn't sound like something I'd be involved in.

On the other hand if they have a blockchain product that facilitates person-to-person or exchange style betting with some kind of escrow for BTC or something easy to exchange, I'll bend over backwards to help them get going.

I'm a software engineer with some crypto experience and would love to work on something like this if I didn't need a day job :-). Yes, development costs would be huge, but they could start incredibly small and iterate adding complexity. For example, just have a market for a single game of the day that would match bettors on two sides.

Maybe start an open source project and be the one that brings this to us!

It's alive! Not quite there with h2h yet, but a running blockchain is a huge step closer. Those who know about PIVX and the zerocoin protocol should be quite familiar with how this will work. This is just the receive tab, plenty of other things in the rest of the tabs. This part is all open source of course(the entire project will be eventually), you can find it on github with more to come soon.

searanchdude, are you still available/interested in being part of building a blockchain-based betting exchange? If so, I'd like to start a dialog with you to discuss what I'm working on creating. Message me with your contact info as I can't message you directly because I haven't posted 40 times in the forums yet.

The latest update just came out, incoming wall of text...

Get Ready to Wagerr on the World Cup!

The Wagerr Team has been extremely busy over the last few months, and is proud to announce that they are now currently testing both head-to-head betting and on-chain betting on the Wagerr Privatenet, in preparation for the 2018 World Cup!

Wagerr holders can expect to either bet in pairs against each other through matched head to head bets, or directly on the blockchain, which will mediate the collective payout liability. The team’s current sentiment is that on-chain betting is the most feasible starting point for Wagerr betting during the 2018 World Cup.

The Wagerr Team has been working to develop Oracle Masternodes that can contribute to resulting for the World Cup. The Oracle Masternodes function as the central checkpoint to achieve super-consensus on event results, thus triggering proper payouts. The team believes that the best way to deploy the Wagerr betting layer is in a modular fashion. As a result, the first Oracle Masternodes for the World Cup will be centralized, and run by the team.

The scheduled portion of fees generated from Wagerr Network betting, and earned by the centralized Oracles, will initially be distributed to eligible (active) masternodes, rewarding those who have supported the network in its early stage. It's also worth noting at this point that CEO David Mah has been in negotiations to license Wagerr (the company) as a regulated gaming business. It is a lengthy process, but one that Wagerr is proud to embark on. This move intelligently positions Wagerr to raise its profile within the current online gaming industry while rolling out a fully decentralized system. This will not negatively impact the ability of any user, in any location, to interact with the blockchain. The next few months will be a very exciting time for the Wagerr Community! The weather is heating up, and so is the Wagerr Network!

The team has been working very hard on development, exchange negotiations are ongoing, the team has entered discussions regarding future partnerships that could be beneficial for both Wagerr users & the Wagerr Network as a whole, and the team has been solidifying their marketing plans in anticipation of the World Cup and the start of betting on the Wagerr Blockchain!

Stay tuned to Wagerr.com & Wagerr's numerous social media channels for many more exciting announcements over the next few months. Betting belongs on the Blockchain... And that’s exactly what the team intends to make possible for the 2018 World Cup!

                                                  —- The Wagerr Team

On the other hand if they have a blockchain product that facilitates person-to-person or exchange style betting with some kind of escrow for BTC or something easy to exchange, I'll bend over backwards to help them get going.
That's essentially what this will be, you can easily swap wgr for btc at multiple exchanges already and adding more exchanges is a high priority. H2H will be similar to exchange betting, and on-chain will be similar to betting against the house. The reason betting volume could have an impact on price is that part of the fees will be burned, which should more than offset staking/Oracle block rewards...at least until supply hits a low enough point. Then we should expect to see a sort of balance, helping to provide some additional stability.

I've picked through everything possible with this project, certainly not any kind of pyramid scheme or anything like that. But I can completely understand the confusion and healthy skepticism. If you can find any potential issues, I'd be more than happy to review them and pass them along directly to the team if necessary. This will be open-source so we do want people to critique and/or contribute. The only thing closed-source will be whatever is currently being developed by the core team in these earliest stages, for obvious reasons...especially when competitors have openly said this would be too difficult for their devs to do(hence their reliance on ethereum).

I've also seen other crypto betting projects refer to long-term winners as a 'problem'. This one certainly won't have an attitude like that, I do speak with the Wagerr CEO (and other team members) often and he really does have the best interest of all bettors at heart. He's been planning for this since well before the recent crypto hype and is very intelligent and forward-thinking. Here's an article he wrote nearly a year ago to give you an idea what he is about -

It rings especially true now, given the Facebook events in recent weeks.

First screenshots are out, on-chain betting will be through the QT wallet - though fairly limited for now. An html5 wallet with much more features is currently in the works. There will be a short public testnet, and then the real betting should likely begin in a matter of days after that. Also seems there will be a mobile version for Android. It's been a fairly long wait but things are coming together nicely now and it's finally happening.

What do you buy and how do you buy it? Is there a way to buy wager-coin or what is it that you buy to bet with?

Also is it like nitrogen where you are "At the mercy" of the price of the coin? Or is it converted to cash on the web-site?

It would suck to win a few bets, but really win nothing (or even be losing!) because the price of the coin went down.

Waves exchange is still probably the best place for now, but be sure to follow the guide exactly to transfer from waves to the main wgr wallet.

Regarding volatility, yes we're at the mercy of the coin price though there are some things in place to help limit this...especially as the network matures a bit. And there could be optional ways to further limit it in the future.
