Problem with William Hill verification process
    Hi to everybody,

I opened a William Hill account about 3 months before. I provided an online bank statement as proof of address and the account was soon verified. After about 40 days, my account was locked. When I tried to find out what had happened (via chat), I was told that my account is not fully verified. I must say that at that time I had lost about 400 Euros from betting at William Hill and I had about 350 Euros in my account. So, this wasn’t the case that someone wins a big amount of money and asks for a withdrawal. Up to that time, I had withdrawn only 50 Euros.

After several chat discussions and much waiting, I sent photos of my driving license and online statement, along with photos of me holding those documents. My documents were rejected for 3 times or more. Every time I was talking via chat I was told something different, until someone asked me to send a paper bank statement, which would be enough for my verification.

As the paper statement is better than the online statement, I found this OK. I ordered the paper statement I got it and I sent it. At first, I sent only the statement and an agent that I spoke with via chat told me that the paper is good, but also a photo of me holding the paper was needed. When I sent the photo, the document was again rejected. When I asked what to do, they told me to send another proof of address. The problem is that I am living in student halls and I have no utility bill available. I have made clear many times that I don’t have any other type of documentation, but the answer is “find something else”.

When I ask why my statement is rejected, their only answer is that the document is not authentic. But it is. I asked them very kindly to call the bank and ask whether they have issued this statement, but they refused. I asked if a letter from the bank that I have an account and I live in the address written in the statement would be ok, they told me that they want only a statement. Today, I was told to ask for another statement from the same bank, but when I asked why the new statement will be different from the one I have already sent, I got no answer and the conversation was ended.

To summarize, I opened an account with a document that is now rejected, I have sent the bank paper statement they asked for and it is being rejected and they don’t seem eager to do something to help. They ask either for documents that they know I don’t have, or they ask for documents that they have already rejected. In a few days, I’m leaving the UK and I want to close my account. The only thing I want is my 300 Euros that is an important amount for me, but is nothing for William Hill However, they want to keep it.

Has anyone faced a similar situation?? What could I do?? Thanks in advance

Send them anything you can think of that might establish you are bona fide. A copy of your flight reservation to leave the country maybe, your final results from the school. A letter addressed to you residing at the school maybe?

It's "normal" for books to reject online bank account statements btw. Not sure why exactly but it is a common complaint.

Having an account in the UK in Euros is maybe why they think something is dodgy?

OP, it's obvious that they want to challenge you. This is not a regular verification process. They found something suspicious with your account and now ask you for one document after another until they are convinced that it's definitely your own account used by yourself and not by another person.

William Hill has been fined £6.2m recently for breaching anti-money laundering rules, so this might be a reason for such strong verification methods.

But it's not okay when they reject documents then ask for the exact same document again without telling you what's wrong with the first document.

I hope SBR can support you in this case.

Thanks for your answer. I understand that they think that something is not normal with my account. But the easiest thing they could do is to tell me the exact problem. They could tell me for example that they have seen a "strange" bet, if something like that has happened.

Now, they just say that "we can't accept this document, it's not authentic" and it's like I am have to prove that I'm not an elephant. It doesn't make sense, as if I could make fake documents, I would provide from the first day 3 different proofs of address and not an online statement.

Maybe you are right. But I am not British and I am used to calculate prices and values in Euro. And they could simply tell me that this is the cause, and not make me sending one photo after another

The people you get to speak to are told not to tell you anything about investigations, and probably do not know the exact reason themselves anyway.

If it is to do with suspicious betting the UK rules say that they cannot tell you anything more than an investigation is underway as well.

              Just FYI.
