An operative of a Costa Rica-based website has been in South Florida for two months to try to talk WQAM-560 AM afternoon host Sid Rosenberg into making good on an alleged $44,500 in gambling debts.

Frank Soviero, who says he works for 1betvegas.com, tells Gossip Extra that Rosenberg lost on dozens of NFL, MLB, WNBA, NHL and college football games in just two weeks.

Soviero said he called station General Manager Joe Bell to complain. To no avail.

Rosenberg and his producer did not return repeated calls seeking comment. Bell declined to comment.

“We can’t sue Sid since what we do is illegal in the United States,” Soviero said recently at Gulfstream Park. “I’ve tried everything. He comes up with 100 bucks here and there, and he gives me a big hug.
“It ticks me off because I talked my boss into giving Sid a few chances. And I’ve seen [my boss] do things when he gets mad.”


U.S. authorities believe that bets over the Internet are illegal and say the foreign-based sites are sometimes Mafia-run.


Soviero’s story comes as Rosenberg is back behind his microphone after a six-week suspension connected to his alleged gambling with another website.


Soviero said he first met Rosenberg one Sunday in October. Because he was recommended by another 1betvegas.com user, Soviero said the website extended Rosenberg a $25,000 credit.


“He put $6,000 on the 4 p.m. NFL games that day. ... He was betting on 10 to 15 games a day. He put $1,000 on the first-half score of a Tampa Bay game. Nobody does that.”


Soviero said he put Rosenberg on a payment plan. Rosenberg gave him $900 last month but he said Rosenberg, with tears in his eyes, told him it was money he had saved to take his children to Disney World.


“I mean Sid no harm, but if he had won $20,000, he’d have expected, and received, the money on the spot.”

This article should have been named, "The sordid, bipolar world of Sports Gambling."

Nobody can say Frank Soviero doesn't possess a larger-than-normal dose of moxie. He is representing an illegal sportsbook operating in Costa Rica, yet thinks he can come up to Florida and use the public press to exert pressure on Sid Rosenberg for being an obvious addicted gambler who needs professional help. Soviero isn't shy about intimating that his boss "does things" when he's mad, thus hurling a slightly veiled threat toward the unlucky Mr. Rosenberg's way. I don't know, I'm no expert, but even 'Frankie' swears that Sid bet $4,000 on one game, bet 10-15 games, etc., even bet a first-half wager and gave us his experienced opinion that "Nobody does that!" Of course, here is where greed raised its ugly head because Frankie and Johnny (his boss) thought they had wheeled in a sucker fish, which would have added immensely to their "fun in the sun" vacations in Florida, which now would have included many $25,000 pickups from Sorry Sid.

Listen, I'm not condoning what our radio announcer did. But if Frankie and Johnny would have thought about it for a minute, Sid's betting patterns were obviously in the 'tilt' and 'sicko' category. But when Frankie calmly flies in to the United States and then goes to the newspapers to try and embarrass Sorry Sid to pay his bill, this takes the cake.

Maybe Sid should (1) stop gambling yesterday; (2) go down to his local police department and avail to them his predicament; (3) follow that up with a visit to the Attorney General and ask their advice. After all, since big, bad Frankie had the temerity to visit the newspapers, why doesn't Sorry Sid have the same option.

You might think I'm defending Sid—wrong! You might think I'm being hard on Frankie—wrong. Listen, I enjoy snails and oysters (I eat them), it's just that I think they should remain in their shell where they belong. Frankie boy is a walking poster of why legalized sports gambling has an uphill road to hoe. I'm thinking of all the honest posters that I read on SBR who are owed $50, $100, $500 by online sports books and get stuck. Then I think of the $25,000 credit given to Sorry Sid. I think of the pro gamblers that post (I admire you; my hat is off to your prowess at a difficult profession) who are the first to bitch and moan when some advantage they had has suddenly disappeared. I think it was the Cigar (Ronnie Sacco) who said, "When my sharp players are bitching and moaning, I know I'm doing something right!). And that is why I call this cat and mouse game the sorded, bipolar world of sports gambling. Cheers!

Agent is a complete moron. Gives a radio announcer 25k in credit and then zeros him out so the guy can double unload on Monday the whole 25k again.

Same agent probably gives the fry cook at McDonald's at least 10k in credit with an auto reload every Monday morning.

No one should ever stiff but sometimes these agents really have it coming with the idiotic moves they make and the retarded amount of credit they give out.
