I sent out PMs to most of the guys/girls I have seen regularly in the tennis forum in the past months. Sure I missed some and some do not have PMs enabled, so posting here as well. If interested, please post a reply.
Contacting some of the regulars in the Tennis Forum to gauge interest on a SBR Fantasy Tennis League. A quick hit on the idea I had. Just looking for a head count on who might be interested before wasting any more time on the idea.
Season will be broken up into three separate sections.
1. January 7th(Sydney-Auckland)-Miami (March)
2. Clay Court Season (Casablanca-French Open)
3. Wimbledon-US Open
Participants will REDRAFT their squads after each section is complete. This way there will be strategy involved with the surface switches that take place + you get the chance to not be stuck with the same players all year. Draft order would be determined based on standings from the previous section. NEW entrants into a section would be placed in the bottom of the draft order. This would be to try to promote players to stick around all year.
Points would be roughly based on # of sets won, escalating points for match wins at 250/500/1000/Grand Slam events, aces, double faults, winning tournaments, making a certain round of a tournament, 1st round losses, etc. This is what I will be working on if we have enough people to make this worthwhile. Thinking about Challenger Level events counting, but obviously for a very low percentage of overall pts vs. ATP level events.
Entry fee would be set at 40 SBR points. I would keep 15% (6 pts) of each entry for doing all the statistical work involved. I think the time invested is definitely worth me gaining something out of this. The remainder (34 pts) goes to the overall prize pool.
NON-pros would be eligible to pay two points per day until paid in full. All PROs would be expected to pay 30 on or before draft day. Draft Day would be set for sometime during the first week of 2013 prior to the beginning of the Sydney-Auckland tournaments in Australia. I would like to do this "live" with everyone present in some sort of Chat Room if possible. If that does not work, I will work a private PM or e-mail draft wherein you would have a set amount of time to make your pick with the selections made before you sent via e-mail/PM so you know who is available and not available.
Roster would consist likely of five starters per week and a bench of four players. Free Agent pick ups would be five points each to add to the prize pool.
Winners of each segment would take place in a finishing head-2-head tournament that would run from the Indoor Hard Court tournaments following the US Open to the Paris Masters. If a player wins more than one section, the 2nd place player from each section would be eligible to advance to the "Finals."
That's my basic outline. I will come up with a firm set of rules if there is enough interest. I think minimum, I would like 12 people involved. Just looking for anyone who is definitely interested and likely to participate. Again, given the three sections - you don't have to play all year if you get burned out. You can play one, two or all three sections ... your choice. Looking for people who will be dedicated to get this started in January.
