3 Potential Landing Spots for Jack Campbell

Unrestricted free agent Jack Campbell is coming off the best season of his career with a respectable 31-9-6 record, .914 save percentage, 2.64 GAA and 10.0 goals saved above average.
He’s one of the top available free-agent goaltenders, and he’s also eyeing a potentially hefty raise after playing the past two seasons with a $1.65 million cap hit.
There isn't a laundry list of goalies available in free agency, either.
Of course, durability remains the knock on the 30-year-old netminder, as Campbell’s 47 starts and 49 appearances this season both stand as career-high marks.
Here are 3 potential landing spots for Campbell this summer
Toronto Maple Leafs
Considering Campbell finally lived up to his potential in Toronto after being acquired by the organization in February 2020, he’s a candidate to stick with the club.
Remember, he was the first goalie selected – 11th overall – in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and billed as a future franchise netminder.
Toronto has well documented salary-cap issues, though, so it will likely take some financial maneuvering and a team-friendly contract for Campbell to return to the Maple Leafs.
Edmonton Oilers
It’s just 40-year-old Mike Smith under contract in goal for the Oilers, so the team will be addressing the position this summer.
Additionally, there’s even potential Smith retires, so his $2.2 million cap hit could come off the books.
With the organization up against the salary cap, every penny will count.
Still, even if Smith sticks around for another season, Edmonton needs an upgrade and more consistent play in goal.
Campbell can help.
Edmonton is also in win-now mode with superstar centers Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in the heart of their primes, but the championship window closes a little more with every postseason disappointment.

Colorado Avalanche
If the Avs can’t come to terms with Darcy Kuemper, perhaps the Colorado brass shifts its focus to Campbell.
It’s hard to imagine the 30-year-old tendy wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to start for the reigning Stanley Cup champs, and Campbell would form an admirable one-two punch in the blue paint with Pavel Francouz.
The Avalanche have cap space to address the position, and Campbell might also be willing to consider a team-friendly deal to join the Stanley Cup favorites.
