A goal and an assist from Lionel Messi gave Argentina a 2-0 lead, but tempers flared as a late collapse led to the Dutch tying it up at two deep into extra time which eventually led to a penalty shootout. Messi led off the scoring, and two saves from goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez were good enough to avoid the upset.

There was a record 18 yellow cards were handed out in Argentina's previous game. Marcos Acuna and Gonzalo Martinez will serve suspensions for being issued yellow cards in consecutive matches., but Argentina is fortunate that some of their top players such as Lautaro Martinez will not be risking suspension for the finals as all suspensions are now reset.

Croatia

Despite only one win in regulation, Croatia remains undefeated and have now won four consecutive matches that have gone to penalties at the World Cup. Bruno Petkovic was the hero on Friday, finding the back of the net on his first shot of the tournament in the 116th minute to force a shoutout. Goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic made 11 saves in the match, and Croatia converted on all five penalty attempts to upset the tournament favorites.

Croatia holds a 2-1-2 lifetime record against Argentina and won the most recent matchup 3-0 in the group stage at the 2018 World Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern Time.
