The Louisiana Gaming Control Board announced that mobile sports betting would go live this Friday, January 28, at 8 a.m. CT.

Nuances of Louisiana Sports Betting Legislation: 

1.) The leading reason for Louisiana’s delay of legalization was the civil law system of state government. The state is comprised of 64 parishes that each voted for the legalization of sports betting within their jurisdiction. After a lengthy process, 56 of 64 parishes statewide approved.

The parishes that did not approve will be geofenced, and mobile sports betting cannot be accessed.

2.) Unlike New York and Illinois, betting on in-state college teams is permitted.

3.) Operators will pay only 15% on mobile bets and 10% on retail bets. Some states like New York tax at a 51% rate, and Hawaii proposed a 55% levy on sportsbooks if legalized.
