The New York Rangers appeared to have a hole to fill in their second line center spot, with Ryan Strome an unrestricted free agent, and they paid a big price to get Vincent Trocheck. The Blueshirts signed Trocheck to a seven-year contract for $39.375 million.

Vincent Trocheck to the New York Rangers
Trocheck, 29, is a skilled enough playmaker to fill the second-line center role and he plays bigger than his size, with a physical game that is more than one might expect from a player who is 5-foot-10, 186 pounds. He has recorded more than 100 hits for seven consecutive seasons.
He has also contributed at least 20 goals and 50 points in four seasons, including 2021-2022 and Trocheck has won 54.9% of his faceoffs across the past three seasons in Carolina. All of this should be relatively encouraging for the immediate impact that Trocheck can have in New York, especially with the likelihood that he will play on a line with Artemi Panarin.
The challenge is that a seven-year deal takes Trocheck through his age 35 season, a massive commitment. Now, Trocheck is the type of player who could still provide value as a third-line center in the later years of the deal if his performance declines as he goes towards his mid-30s.
Coming off a strong showing in 2021-2022, the Rangers are considered to be Stanley Cup contenders next season, priced at +2000 on DraftKings Sportsbook, +1700 on FanDuel Sportsbook, and +1500 on Caesars Sportsbook. That puts them in the top eight at each of those sportsbooks.
