The Air Force Falcons must pull off a massive upset of the undefeated Army Black Knights to remain in the hunt for the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy when the two service academies meet on Saturday afternoon.

  • Army is one of eight remaining undefeated FBS teams and has kept its College Football Playoff hopes alive
  • Air Force has lost six straight games after opening the season with a win over FCS Merrimack
  • Army has won three of the last four head-to-head meetings with Air Force

Our Air Force vs. Army predictions expect another blowout similar to the Falcons’ first game in the Commander-in-Chief’s series against Navy. Kickoff from Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y is set for noon ET on Saturday.

We took a closer look at this game with our Air Force vs. Army prediction.

We have already seen Air Force in a game involving another service academy, and it was not particularly close, as Navy won 34-7 and easily covered as 9.5-point favorites.

The scary thing for Air Force is that SP+ loves Army’s metrics more than Navy’s this year. The Midshipmen rank 44th, 73rd, and 102nd in Offensive/Defensive/Special Teams SP+, while the Black Knights rank 33rd, 45th, and 38th in those three categories.

Moneyline

  • Army best odds: -2800 via DraftKings | Implied probability: 96.55%
  • Air Force best odds: +1600 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 5.88%

Army has as high as -4500 moneyline odds at FanDuel, carrying a 97.83% implied win probability.

The Black Knights beat the Falcons 23-3 last year, but before that, each of the previous five head-to-head meetings were decided by seven or fewer points. That is likely to have some bettors sprinkling some money on the underdogs’ moneyline odds, but not enough to move the line drastically.

Spread

  • Army best odds: -23.5 (-110) via BetMGM
  • Air Force best odds: +24.5 (-110) via Caesars

The differences with regards to the point spread among our best sports betting apps is significant given that there are lines on either side of the key number of 24.

Air Force has not covered the spread in a single game this season (0-7 ATS), while Army is 6-1 ATS in its seven games. Therefore, I am backing the Black Nights early before the line moves away from them.

Over/Under

  • Over best odds: Over 40 (-110) via Caesars
  • Under best odds: Under 41.5 (-115) via FanDuel

FanDuel is the only one of our best sportsbooks offering a total as high as 41.5. However, given that the Under is juiced to -115, that suggests the line is likely to come down and align with the rest of the competing sportsbooks rather than creeping higher.

The Under has cashed in seven straight meetings between these teams, and no game that ended in regulation in that span had more than 31 points scored. That is also likely to kick off the game with a total closer to the 40 offered at Caesars than the 41.5 at FanDuel.
