The Eastern Michigan Eagles and Ohio Bobcats play one of three MAC games on Wednesday, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. ET airing on ESPN2.

Ohio is one of four teams with a 4-1 record in MAC play, and a win this week would help its case to secure a berth in the MAC Championship Game

As part of our Week 12 college football predictions, our Eastern Michigan vs. Ohio prediction feels this line is a bit over-inflated after the Bobcats turned in a big victory in their last game.

Eastern Michigan is anywhere from an 8.5-to-9-point underdog in advance of Wednesday’s matchup at Peden Stadium in Athens, Ohio.

An over-inflated line

After opening as 7.5-point favorites, it was only a matter of time before the line moved in Ohio’s direction, considering the Bobcats have won their last two MAC games by an average of 36 points.

While Ohio’s 47-16 home win over Buffalo was impressive, the Bobcats are heralded for a 41-0 shutout win over Kent State last week. But the Golden Flashes are arguably the worst team at the FBS level, falling to 0-9 with a -278 point differential.

Meanwhile, Eastern Michigan has lost back-to-back games to Akron and Toledo by five combined points. This line would look much different if the Eagles’ two-point conversion attempt when trailing Toledo by one with no time left was successful.

Eastern Michigan is also not a team that beats itself, ranking in the top 20 nationally in turnover margin, and the top 15 in turnovers lost.

November has been good to the Eagles

Eastern Michigan has been a team consistently playing its best football towards the end of the season in recent years.

The Eagles are 17-12 in November since the beginning of the 2016 season, and they are 17-8 (.680) in November if one excludes the 2020 COVID-shortened season where the adjusted schedule began in November.

Eagles prepare well for mid-week games

Eastern Michigan is playing its 20th mid-week MACtion game since Chris Creighton took over as head coach in 2020. The Eagles are 13-6 in those games, and have won five of the last six.

If this line reaches double-digits, it brings into play a trend that has seen MAC favorites in non-Saturday games go 68-9 SU over the last decade. But while teams in that split went 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS last season, oddsmakers have seemingly adjusted, as weekday double-digit MAC favorites went 1-2 ATS in Week 11.

Eastern Michigan is a perfect 3-0 ATS after a loss and has covered both games as road underdogs this season, so I am happy to jump on any of the +9s available. Through DraftKings’ -110 odds, a $10 winning wager if the Eagles cover would pay out $19.09.

Delbert Mimms III anytime touchdown scorer (+110) ⭐⭐⭐

Mimms' 558 rushing yards are more than double the next-highest teammate’s yardage total. He is also the team’s touchdown leader with seven rushing scores, including at least one score in six of nine games this season.

Eastern Michigan’s offense has averaged 29.2 points per game this season and has scored 28 offensive touchdowns. That is a significant increase from last year when the Eagles had just 17 offensive scores at this same point in the season.

Given that Mimms has found the endzone in two-thirds of his team’s games this year, the +110 odds carrying a 47.62% implied probability for this wager are a great value.

DraftKings is on the high end of this market with -105 odds for Mimms to find the endzone, but bet365’s odds return a much better value ($11 in net profits for every $10 winning wager).
