Oregon and Illinois sit in the center of the Big Ten universe this weekend.

In the Saturday afternoon showcase at 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS), the Ducks look to remain unbeaten as they attempt to continue climbing the college football championship odds. But Oregon, a 21.5-point favorite, hasn’t been cashing many tickets against the spread in its home games at Autzen Stadium.

Our Illinois vs. Oregon prediction sees a continuation of the struggles the Ducks have had in managing large-point spreads in our Week 9 college football predictions.

Best Illinois vs. Oregon picks

College football picks based on the odds from our best college football betting sites. Odds subject to change.

  • Against the spread pick: Illinois +21.5 (-104 via FanDuel) vs. Oregon ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • My best bet: Luke Altmyer Over 192.5 passing yards (-115 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Illinois vs. Oregon against the spread prediction: Week 9

Illinois to cover the spread: +21.5 (-104) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Illinois vs. Oregon opening odds:

  • Illinois: +21.5 (-110)
  • Oregon: -21.5 (-110)

Though the Ducks are unbeaten, their efforts for bettors have been less than glowing. Overall, Oregon is 3-4 against the spread and 1-3 ATS as the home team.

Oregon’s -12.6 average margin against the spread in home games is sixth-worst in FBS as the Ducks have had trouble blowing out teams by the types of lofty spreads that we’re seeing for this matchup.

Ducks fear large numbers?

Oregon has been favored by more than 21.5 points four times this year and covered the number only once. Meanwhile, we’ve seen Illinois take to the road in a comparable spot when the Illini lost 21-7 at Penn State, covering the +17.5 point spread. Illinois is 2-0 ATS as a road team this season and is 5-1-1 ATS overall.

Illinois is a 21.5-point underdog across each of our best college football betting sites. We recommend avoiding the -115 odds at BetMGM on the Illinois spread, gravitating instead toward favorable -104 odds at FanDuel on the same number.

That's the same price that C Jackson Cowart recommends for his best bet on this game in his college football Week 9 expert picks.

Luke Altmyer Over 192.5 passing yards (-115) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Prior to last week, Luke Altmyer had cleared a 192.5-yard passing line in four of six games, posting totals of 185 and 192 the two times he fell short. Although one of those occasions was the loss at Penn State, the Nittany Lions feature the fourth-ranked total defense in FBS.

Ranking 18th in the nation in total defense, Oregon is slightly more susceptible to surrendering yards to its opponents. Ohio State’s Will Howard cleared 300 yards passing against the Ducks in their most recent home game.

For the best value on this prop, play the 192.5-yard line at bet365 rather than the 199.5-yard line posted at FanDuel and BetMGM.

Best odds: -115 via bet365 | Implied probability: 53.49%
