Liberty vs. Jacksonville State Prediction, Picks & Odds Week 7: Expect Offensive Fireworks
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks host the undefeated Liberty Flames on college football's first Tuesday of the 2023 season, as we make the best Liberty vs. Jacksonville State prediction based on the best college football odds.
The Gamecocks trailed the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders 23-7 at halftime last Wednesday. After benching quarterback Logan Smothers for Zion Webb, the team exploded for 38 second-half points to move to 5-1 on the season.
The Flames remained unbeaten, but their game against the Sam Houston Bearkats was much closer than expected. The offense was held scoreless in the second half, as the defense held on for the 21-16 win, their first victory of 2023 to be decided by fewer than 10 points.

Webb and Smothers have been consistently splitting time during 2023. Whenever one of the quarterbacks struggles, the other seems to see a significant amount of playing time. This makes the Gamecocks a tough team to plan for since the two quarterbacks play such different styles.
However, we can’t confidently back the Gamecocks against the spread, especially against a team that has won four of their games by 10 or more points. But it’s hard to trust the Flames after they nearly lost a game in which they were favored by 18.5.
Instead of playing the spread, we’re taking the Over. The Gamecocks have scored 35 or more in three of their five games. They’ve also allowed 28 or more in three of their five. We think Kaidon Salter and the Flames are going to easily exploit a defense allowing 240.2 yards per game to very mediocre quarterbacks.
The Flames’ offense was poor last week, but the Bearkats’ defense might really just be that good. Prior to last week, the Flames had scored at least 33 points in every game. With the Gamecocks’ offense dangerous no matter who is under center, we expect both teams to get into the high 20s or 30s.
