The Ohio Bobcats look for revenge for a midseason loss, as they battle the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks in the MAC Championship.

Earlier this season, the RedHawks defeated the Bobcats 30-20. As we continue our College Football Championship Week predictions, I look at how that outcome will impact the best Ohio vs. Miami (Ohio) prediction for this week’s noon ET (ESPN) MAC Championship game at Ford Field.

The RedHawks have won seven consecutive games, while the Bobcats have won seven of eight—their only loss during that stretch was against the RedHawks. Miami (Ohio) favored by two points. Can it complete the season sweep, or will Ohio get its revenge?

RedHawks slow down red-hot Bobcats

Earlier this week, I discussed the defensive dominance of these two teams when reviewing the Ohio vs. Miami (Ohio) early picks and predictions. In a game that I expect to end with a lower score than the first meeting between these two, I give the edge to the RedHawks.

They’re allowing just 17.3 points per game this season, and they held the Bobcats to just six points through three quarters in the first contest. The RedHawks have allowed 12 points or fewer in three consecutive games and held nine consecutive opponents to 21 or fewer. Even though they played the Notre Dame Fighting Irish earlier this year, the RedHawks have yet to give up more than 28 in a single game.

The Bobcats have scored at least 35 points in four of their last five, and they’ve topped 40 in three of those contests. They also have a very solid defense, allowing just 19.8 points per game. While they have the well-balanced team needed to pull this upset, I wouldn’t feel comfortable taking them unless I could get this at 3.5 or more. This game is being played at a neutral site, but the RedHawks dominated the first matchup so thoroughly that it won’t make enough of a difference.

Most of our best sports betting apps have this spread at two points. While FanDuel is offering -1.5, the price is -118. I expect this number to grow as kickoff approaches, as 65% of bettors are backing the RedHawks.

In the first meeting between these two, Gabbert threw for only 178 yards. However, the main reason for his lack of yards was how good his offense was, not how good the Bobcats’ defense played.

The RedHawks held a 30-6 lead at one point, and they ran the ball 30 times, while Gabbert threw just 21 passes, his third-lowest total of the season.

This game should be a closer one, and that means more Gabbert. He’s thrown for at least 205 yards in seven games this season and threw for 255 in the regular-season finale. Additionally, the Bobcats are allowing 213.4 passing yards per game, and they gave up 333 last week.

Even though the price isn’t great, betting at Caesars provides a lot of value.

The total is set at 204.5 - 13 yards below FanDuel's offer. While only three sportsbooks have this prop available, considering Caesars' offer, there is no reason to wait for others to list it.
