In a college football bowl game landscape that includes the likes of the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, and the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl, having a Pop-Tarts Bowl on the docket doesn’t seem too outlandish.

However, the post-game spectacle attached to the inaugural Pop-Tarts Bowl last season got the attention of both the public at large and the oddsmakers at our best sportsbooks.

Following the Big 12’s Kansas State’s 28-19 win over the ACC’s NC State in the 2023 Pop-Tarts Bowl at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla., the game’s mascot, a person in a Frosted Strawberry Pop-Tart costume, climbed into a giant ‘toaster’ that had been moved out onto the field. Subsequently, an edible giant ‘Pop-Tart’ emerged from the bottom of the contraption and was eaten by the winning team.

That proved to be so popular that organizers have tripled down for the 2024 edition of the bowl game, with three mascots instead of one, and the game’s MVP picking the Pop-Tart flavour for his team to eat. And FanDuel Canada is offering up odds on which Pop-Tart flavour will end up as the MVP’s selection.

Which Pop-Tart flavor will be eaten by the Pop-Tarts Bowl MVP?

Three Pop-Tart flavours in the mix for post-game feast

Frosted Strawberry will not make a repeat appearance at the Pop-Tarts Bowl this year. Instead, the three flavors represented by mascots will be Hot Fudge Sundae, Cinnamon Roll, and Wild Berry.

And of those flavors, it’s Hot Fudge Sundae that’s listed as the betting favorite at FanDuel at +126 odds to be chosen to be eaten by the game’s Most Valuable Player. Cinnamon Roll is next at +200 on those betting lines, while Wild Berry sits third on the list at +230 odds at the sportsbook for the game later this month.

The flavor chosen to be eaten by the game’s MVP will then presumably have its corresponding mascot do the same on-field toaster routine as last year. However, the winning team will also be raising a new-and-improved trophy to celebrate their 2024 Pop-Tarts Bowl victory, one that has been designed in conjunction with GE Appliances to contain an actual working toaster. That’s right, it’s a trophy/toaster. Just when you think the engineering world has nothing left to offer us, they come up with this delight.

Miami the favorite against Iowa State in the contest

It’ll be the Big 12’s Iowa State taking on the ACC’s Miami in the 2024 Pop-Tarts Bowl, with the game set for Dec. 28 in Orlando and kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

Miami is set as the 3.5-point favorite at FanDuel Canada, with the total for the contest listed at 55.5 points. This is the second edition of the Pop-Tarts Bowl, but the 35th edition of this bowl game overall – it has been played under many other names in the past, including the Blockbuster Bowl, Carquest Bowl, MicronPC Bowl, Tangerine Bowl, Champs Sports Bowl, Russell Athletic Bowl, Camping World Bowl, and Cheez-It Bowl.

The Hurricanes went 10-2 overall on the college football season and 6-2 in conference play to end up in third place in the ACC standings, while the Cyclones went 10-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play but were thumped 45-19 by Arizona State in the Big 12 Championship Game. In the final College Football Playoff rankings of the 2024 season Miami was pegged at No. 13 while Iowa State came in at No. 18.

How to choose between the three Pop-Tart flavors

To cash in on this prop wager we will have to be able to predict which of the three Pop-Tart flavors will be preferred by the player named as the Pop-Tarts Bowl’s MVP.

That’s obviously no easy task, but we can always just simply try to predict which of the three flavors would be the preference in this situation in general. Hot Fudge Sundae is the betting favorite, but might be too fanciful for a college football setting. Wild Berry seems like the least appealing, with its gaudy blue and purple icing. That leaves the classic Cinnamon Roll – recently ranked as the top flavour at parade.com – as our pick for this prop wager.

My Pick: Cinnamon Roll (+200)
