UCLA opened as a 10.5-point road favorite and has remained there at DraftKings and FanDuel (-110) while moving to -11 (-110) at BetMGM. As of Thursday, 89% of the cash has gone toward UCLA, but that hasn’t been enough to move the line much.

The total, however, has seen some upward movement. It opened at 62.5 and has shifted up to 66.5 at DraftKings (-110), FanDuel (-110) and BetMGM (-115o).

Arizona State isn’t an incredibly talented football team. The program has certainly been through more than its fair share of turmoil this season. But the Sun Devils have looked more competent since the firing of Herm Edwards.

Arizona State has crept into the top 50 in offensive efficiency with a pair of 40-point explosions in its last three games. The one home games ASU has played since Edwards’ firing was a 45-38 win over Washington. UCLA is arguably just a more effective version of that Huskies team, as the Bruins play elite offense but struggle defensively at times.

I don’t expect the Sun Devils to win this game, but they stand a better chance than the spread suggests given UCLA’s only real road test this season came as a 15-point loss to Oregon. UCLA’s only other road game was a win at Colorado, which is the worst Power Five team in the country.

UCLA vs. Arizona State O/U Pick

Over 66.5 (-110) ★★★

The total has zoomed upward since opening as a result of the realization that neither defense is going to have an easy time stopping the opposing offense. UCLA games have gone 6-2 on Overs this season, and despite Arizona State’s 3-5 mark on Overs, the tide has shifted toward higher-scoring affairs after Edwards’ departure.

UCLA has allowed 26.7 points per game on the season, while its defensive efficiency is an underwhelming 68th in FBS. That’s better than the defenses ASU has faced in recent weeks, but it’s not anything special.

ASU has allowed a gaudy 32.4 points per game. UCLA has the No. 8 offensive efficiency in the country and should score 40 in this matchup on the strength of an elite rushing offense. I just don’t think it’s crazy to project Arizona State to reach 30 given the Bruins have allowed that total to their opponent in four of their last six games.

Charbonnet Over 124.5 rushing yards (-114) ★★★★★

I’m not sure there’s a number FanDuel could have placed this line at that I wouldn’t have happily taken. The UCLA lead rusher has exploded for triple-digit rushing outputs in six of seven games this season, including 124 or more rushing yards in each of his last four outings.

Life should be good again this week for the 21-year-old running back, as Arizona State has allowed 171.9 rushing yards per game on the year, which ranks 97th in FBS. The 4.6 yards per attempt the Sun Devils are permitting ranks 101st. 

Charbonnet has drawn 20-plus rushing attempts in each of his past four games. In a game the Bruins are favored by double-digits against a porous run defense, the workload should remain robust.
