The most lopsided football series in the Big 12 in recent years has been West Virginia against Oklahoma, with the Sooners dominating as they meet again this Saturday in Norman.

Which way to lean at SBR’s approved online betting sites? Let's check out the college football odds for this one.

West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Oklahoma Sooners

Saturday, September 25, 2021 - 07:30 PM EDT at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium

ABC shows a marquee college football game every Saturday night and this is the choice in Week 4. Frankly, that tells you the schedule this week isn’t all that great in terms of marquee matchups or that ESPN/ABC doesn’t have the rights to the better games (i.e. SEC fixtures).

Of course, Oklahoma and Texas will be leaving the Big 12 for the SEC in a few years, and West Virginia probably is thrilled the Sooners will be gone.

OU is the lone school that WVU has yet to beat (0-8) since joining the Big 12 in the 2012 season and most of those games were not close. Oklahoma has scored at least 44 points in seven of those eight games.

The schools didn’t play last year, though, as it was first postponed due to COVID issues within the WVU program, rescheduled and then canceled outright. Oklahoma is 5-0-1 ATS in the past six meetings.

WVU Playing Two QB's at Times

West Virginia isn’t ranked but did get some votes this week after knocking off then-No. 15 Virginia Tech on Saturday in Morgantown, 27-21 – the Mountaineers were short favorites on the NCAAF odds, but the spread action at SBR’s top-rated books was quite heavy on the Hokies.

WVU (2-1) was up 27-7 in the third quarter and then had to hang on for dear life. Jackie Matthews had a goal-line pass breakup with 45 seconds left.

Leddie Brown is one of the better running backs in the Big 12 and had 161 yards, including an 80-yard score, on 19 carries.

Jarret Doege, who won a close QB competition in camp, was 15-for-25 for 193 yards, two scores and a pick. Freshman Garrett Greene did play some and brings a running element that Doege doesn’t.

"There is a science to it. It's not easy to kind of sit and go in. We had a drive there when he dropped a snap" coach Neal Brown said of playing both QBs.

"We had a pass play we felt really good about with him in the game but they did a couple of things when he was in the game that was a little different than they were doing when Jarret was in the game, but I thought (Greene) did fine.

"He was real excited early and missed a big run but he came back later and had a couple of good runs. … We'll get better at playing both of them,” added Brown.

It was West Virginia’s 49th all-time win over an Associated Press Top 25 and second under Brown. The Mountaineers also knocked off K-State last year under his watch. They are 9-3 ATS on the NCAAF odds in their past 12 September games but just 5-11 ATS in their past 16 as road dogs.

Sooners Still Unbeaten

Oklahoma (3-0) dropped from third to fourth in the AP Top 25 on Sunday following a rather ugly 23-16 home win over a pretty mediocre Nebraska team on Saturday. The Huskers got the ball with 57 seconds remaining and no timeouts but couldn’t even get a first down.

Quarterback Spencer Rattler, who is +1200 at SBR’s top-rated books to win the Heisman Trophy and could be the top overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft, was just OK in going 24-for-34 for 214 yards and a TD. He also rushed for a score.

The 23 points were OU’s fewest in a victory since a 20-17 home win over TCU in 2013 and the fewest points scored overall by the Sooners since a 33-23 loss in the 2016 season opener.

Their streak of consecutive games scoring at least 27 points came to an end at 65. That was by far the longest in the nation and in fact the longest in the history of the AP poll era (since 1936).

Nebraska missed two field goals and had a blocked extra point that OU's Pat Fields returned 100 yards for two points at the end of the third quarter that stretched a 14-9 lead to 16-9.

It was Oklahoma’s first blocked PAT returned for points since 2014. The Sooners also had five sacks, led by star Nik Bonitto’s two.

The Pick

Perhaps also consider a second-quarter wager on this one? Oklahoma has outscored foes 51-0 in that quarter so far.

The Sooners are 6-1 ATS in their past seven Big 12 games. They will win, but that’s a pretty big number so let's take the points for the NCAAF pick.
