Corales Puntacana Championship Picks to Win & Odds 2025: Backing a LONG Shot
Pictured: Aldrich Potgieter hits from the fairway. Photo by Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images.

The PGA Tour returns to the Dominican Republic for this week's alternate event with Keith Mitchell listed as a +1600 betting favorite by the Corales Puntacana Championship odds, but it's an excellent week to back long shots, and that's exactly what we're here to do.

Scottie Scheffler is the favorite by the RBC Heritage odds for this week's main event on the PGA Tour. With only 72 golfers participating in the Signature Event this week, Mitchell leads a field of 132 in the Dominican.

Billy Horschel is not back to defend his title in this event.

πŸ’° Who'll win the Corales Puntacana Championship?

Here are my best golf picks to win this week's Corales Puntacana Championship at Corales Golf Club in the Dominican Republic.

🎯  Aldrich Potgieter

Best odds: +5000 via FanDuel ($10 pays $500)

Potgieter is the longest hitter in this field (and most others) - and it's not remotely close. He won't really be punished for inaccuracy either, and the South African is free to bomb it around Corales Golf Club. He's also averaging 0.21 strokes gained: putting across his last 16 measured rounds, so he checks both of this week's main statistical boxes.

The only thing he lacks is course history, as he'll make his debut at Corales Golf Club this week. That hasn't stopped others from success in this tournament or other alt events before. Talent prevails in these watered-down fields that go up against the PGA Tour's Signature Events.

Potgieter was the runner-up in a slightly stronger field for the Mexico Open earlier this season, and he tied for 15th in a much stronger field for the Farmers Insurance Open. Torrey Pines Golf Club, the host of that event, also demands length off the tee.

Take the +5000 odds from FanDuel for an extra $100 in profit on a winning $10 bet vs. the +4000 odds offered by Caesars and BetMGM.

Mitchell begins the week at No. 98 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). He's coming off a pair of top-20 finishes, with a T-18 in the Texas Children's Houston Open and a T-12 in the Valero Texas Open. He'll try to carry that relative success outside of Texas.

He hasn't played this event since a T-61 result in 2021, but he was the runner-up to Brice Garnett in 2018.

Mitchell has been struggling with his putter this season, and that's a necessary strength in Punta Cana. None of the seven winners of this event had pre-tournament odds shorter than +2000, and I'll be fading this week's betting favorites in search of a long-shot.

When it comes to golf betting, it's essential to understand the various types of wagers available and how to assess player performance effectively.

  • Outright winners
  • Each-way bets (which encompass both a win and a top finish)
  • Head-to-head matchups
  • Proposition bets tailored to specific tournament events, like hole-in-one occurrences or player performances on designated holes

Once you've determined your preferred bet types, conduct thorough research on players, course conditions, recent form, and other pertinent factors that could influence outcomes.

Delve into player statistics, recent tournament performances, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that may impact a player's chances of success.
