The John Deere Classic odds from our best golf betting sites list Sungjae Im and defending champion Sepp Straka as betting favorites as we make our expert picks with a 156-man field at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., this week.

Sepp Straka (+1600) will attempt to defend his 2023 title at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., against this week's 156-man field that includes outright betting favorites Sungjae Im (+1400) and Jordan Spieth (+2000). Opening favorite Patrick Cantlay withdrew Monday morning.

As usual, the field for this event is watered down due to its position on the PGA Tour schedule. With The Open Championship just two weeks away, many top golfers are already across the Atlantic to prepare. That creates an excellent opportunity to bet on long shots, as each of the last six winners of this event carried pre-tournament odds of +5000 or longer.

Keep your eye on the British Open odds for lingering value ahead of the year's final major.

John Deere Classic picks: My first click

Lucas Glover

Best odds: +5500 via BetMGM | Implied probability: 1.79%

Glover won this event in 2021, with a T-10 finish in 2019 and a T-6 last year. Yet, he's being grossly disrespected by these odds in an extremely weak field.

Glover enters this week on the heels of a T-44 showing in the Travelers Championship. Though he missed the cut in the U.S. Open and the Memorial Tournament before that, he had previously played seven straight weekends with finishes between 11th and T-43 (PGA Championship).

The 44-year-old has six PGA Tour victories, including two in back-to-back weeks last August. He's one of the most accurate drivers in this field, and he also gains strokes from tee to green and on approach. All we need is for his putter to warm up by the weekend, as it has many times before when in contention.

His odds to win this week are as low as +4500 elsewhere, so there's an extra $100 in profit to be had on a winning bet by making this $10 wager with BetMGM. A winning $10 bet returns a profit of $550.

John Deere Classic favorite

Sungjae Im (+1400 via bet365)

Im enters this week at No. 29 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), and he's playing his best golf of the calendar year, outside of missed cuts in the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship. Im finished in the top 10 of each of his last four non-major events on American soil.

Those finishes include a T-4 in the Signature Wells Fargo Championship, a T-8 in the Memorial Tournament, and a T-3 in the Travelers Championship. He also has the benefit of a week of rest in this weakened field.

Im didn't play this event either of the last two years following a T-26 in 2019 and a T-47 in 2021, but his improved driving accuracy and iron play will be strengths this week. He's a worthy favorite in a crowded top of the board, and he's worth a bet at this +1400 price point.

How to bet on golf

When it comes to golf betting, it's essential to understand the various types of wagers available and how to assess player performance effectively. Begin by acquainting yourself with the common bet types, such as outright winners, each-way bets (which encompass both a win and a top finish), head-to-head matchups, and proposition bets tailored to specific tournament events, like hole-in-one occurrences or player performances on designated holes.

Once you've determined your preferred bet types, conduct thorough research on players, course conditions, recent form, and other pertinent factors that could influence outcomes. Delve into player statistics, recent tournament performances, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that may impact a player's chances of success. Armed with this information, you can make well-informed betting decisions and increase your likelihood of success in golf betting.
