Zalatoris had a humble T-42 showing last week in the Travelers Championship. That was a bounce-back from a missed cut in the U.S. Open, but in itself, it does little to inspire confidence in an outright bet, even against this week's weaker field. However, he was ninth in the field in driving accuracy over four rounds, and it's easy to expect an immediate improvement in his usually sharp approach play.
Zalatoris has three top-10 finishes this year. Those came in the Genesis Invitational (T-2), Arnold Palmer Invitational (T-4), and the Masters (T-9), against some of the strongest fields in golf. He's making his third career appearance in this event, with a T-20 in 2022 as his best and most recent finish at DGC.

Kim's playoff loss and runner-up finish behind Scottie Scheffler in last week's Travelers Championship was his best result of the 2024 PGA Tour season. It moved him up to No. 16 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and makes him the consensus betting favorite in this weaker field in Detroit.
The three-time PGA Tour champion finished seventh while debuting in this event in 2022 before missing the cut last year. He's coming off a week in Connecticut where he led the field with 2.60 strokes gained: tee-to-green per round while showing improved play on and around the greens. All of those traits play well anywhere.
Though the list of past Rocket Mortgage Classic champions is mostly comprised of long hitters, the venue is not overly long, and accuracy is more important than distance off the tee. That plays into Kim's strengths, and he led last week's field in driving accuracy and fairways hit.
The +1400 odds from bet365 offer an additional $20 in profit on a winning $10 bet compared to the +1200 odds found elsewhere, with an implied win probability of 6.67%. I'd be fine with backing Kim for the outright win, but it may be best to wait it out in the hope his odds rise later in the week with the betting handle likely to be more evenly distributed in a non-Scheffler field.
