Our 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii picks are dissecting the PGA Tour odds from our best golf betting sites in search of the best value plays with a strong field in attendance at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.

Si Woo Kim will look to defend his 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii title as only a mid-range contender in a much stronger field this week.

The Sony Open is receiving a boost from The Sentry's status as a PGA Tour signature event to open the 2024 PGA Tour season. Several of the big names from last week's field who don't typically play this event have stuck around in Hawaii.

This week's betting favorite is Ludvig Aberg, who enters the week at No. 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). Matt Fitzpatrick is the top-ranked golfer in the field at No. 8 in the OWGR. Fellow major winner Brian Harman is also making another appearance in the Sony Open, but he's posted a lackluster resume to date.

Below, we make our Sony Open in Hawaii picks based on the best golf odds.

Sony Open in Hawaii picks 2024

Eric Cole to win (+3000 via BetMGM)

The recently crowned PGA Tour Rookie of the Year for the 2022-23 season debuted in 2024 with a quality T-14 finish in The Sentry. He relied on his excellent iron play, and that bodes well with a move to a shorter venue better suited to his overall game.

Cole has been riding a hot putter of late, though that cooled a bit last week. That coupled with his strong play around the greens will set him up for success at Waialae Country Club while looking for his first PGA Tour victory.

The 39th-ranked golfer in the OWGR also ranked 14th on the PGA Tour last season in birdie-or-better percentage from this week's key distance of 150 to 175 yards.

I would still be comfortable betting the +2500 outright odds for Cole that are available elsewhere but rush out to grab this +3000 ticket via BetMGM and use our BetMGM bonus code: SBRBONUS.

Patrick Rodgers to finish top 10 (+800 via bet365)

Rodgers tied for 14th in a stronger (but smaller) field during last week's Sentry. It's important to note that while these first two events of the PGA Tour season are played in Hawaii, the tournaments are held at starkly different courses. However, Waialae Country Club sets up much better for Rodgers than the Plantation Course at Kapalua.

Rodgers regularly ranks among the PGA Tour's best in strokes gained: around the green. That held true last week, and he was among the field leaders over 72 holes in SG: approach as well as SG: tee-to-green - two staple stats that play well anywhere. Rodgers also made three birdies when approaching the green from 150-175 yards last week. That'll be a much more common range for him at Waialae.

What I value most in golf betting is price shopping, and Rodgers' top-10 placing market this week is a perfect situation for that. We're getting market-best +800 odds via bet365 for a top-10 showing in the Sony Open. BetMGM offers odds as low as +650 that bettors need to avoid by registering via our bet365 bonus code: SBRBONUS.

Sony Open in Hawaii field notes

As mentioned, this is a very strong field for the Sony Open. The early-season event often gets skipped by many of the top names in the world rankings due to travel, but the larger field for The Sentry and its status as a signature event have helped boost the draw of this follow-up tournament on the islands.

Aberg is the headliner as the heavy favorite with two notable recent major winners close behind him on the oddsboard. We'll also see fan favorite Will Zalatoris return to action after missing most of 2023 due to a back injury; he returned to play the Hero World Challenge in December but finished last in the 20-man field.

Chris Kirk will be going for back-to-back wins to open the season. It was his first victory since The Honda Classic in late February.
