Rory McIlroy, who's coming off a heartbreaking runner-up finish last week at Pinehurst No. 2, withdrew from this field Monday evening. That puts reigning PGA Champion Xander Schauffele second behind Scheffler.

But we're looking for better value plays with Keegan Bradley (+5000) back to defend his 2023 victory in the Travelers Championship.

Travelers Championship picks: My first click

Sepp Straka

Straka was the most accurate golfer off the tee in the U.S. Open field last week, but he finished just T-56 due to poor play around the greens. Driving accuracy has been his main strength this season, and the short game will be much less of a test for all in attendance at TPC River Highlands this week.

Straka also ranks well in strokes gained: approach, and he's well above average as a putter. He tied for 38th in this event last year, but he had a much better T-10 showing in 2021.

Travelers Championship favorite

Scottie Scheffler

We're once again seeing Scheffler with odds no longer than +400 against the PGA Tour's best in a Signature Event. It makes sense after he won the Memorial Tournament for his fifth victory of the 2024 calendar year before a lackluster T-41 finish amid the difficult conditions of Pinehurst No. 2 and the U.S. Open.

Scheffler struggled mightily on the greens last week, after correcting those putter issues had been the key to his success this year. The putting surfaces will be much closer to normal expectations this week, and that could be enough to return him to his usual spot atop the leaderboard. Even while finishing outside of the top 40 last week, he ranked fourth in the field with 1.52 strokes gained: approach per round.

These +400 odds represent an implied win probability of 20.00%. It's a value price point over the +350 odds offered by bet365, but I wouldn't go any lower than the +400 when looking to bet on the five-time winner.
