There's plenty of afternoon baseball on the docket today as we turn our attention to a few sluggers who sell out for power - namely Cal Raleigh and Jorge Soler - an alluring matchup against the always woeful Rockies' pitching, and Corbin Carroll's quest to keep pummelling righties.

Cal Raleigh eternally scoffs at looping singles and merely making contact. He goes up to the plate every time with only pure punishment on his mind, and that's the kind of dedication to dingers that makes us feel alive around here.
He's posted two straight 30-plus homer seasons, including a career high 34 last year, and a career batting average of .217. The catcher either muscles one or misses, and lately it's been more of the former.
Raleigh has recorded eight hits in as many games recently, and half have gone for extra bases, including two of his three home runs 14 games into the new season.
The switch-hitter now gets to face Kumar Rocker of the Texas Rangers, the promising third overall pick in 2022. Rocker is brimming with potential, but he's off to a tough beginning to his career after allowing three homers and 12 earned runs across five starts and 19 2/3 innings. He's a right-hander too, and Raleigh hit 21 of his long balls last year against righties.

Solar sells out for power too, though not to the same extent as Raleigh, while sporting a .243 career batting average and .794 OPS. He's only one season removed from posting 36 round-trippers, and the veteran has been leaving the yard often lately with three deep shots across his last six games.
The outfielder is also squaring up a whole lot of offerings, as his barrel rate ranks in the 91st percentile, according to Baseball Savant.
The Houston Astros will be leaning on their bullpen plenty on Saturday while trotting out long reliever Ryan Gusto to start the game. His longest outing of the season so far featured 42 pitches, so a bullpen that's been mediocre so far with its 3.65 ERA (14th in MLB) will likely need to do heavier lifting.

Machado is off to a stellar start in many categories, including his .333 average that sits tied for 16th leaguewide, and an .890 OPS. He's smacking the small white projectile often and with power, as his 52.3 hard-hit percentage shows. But it's just not leaving the ballpark much with his one homer thus far.
The Colorado Rockies' pitching staff is often the cure for what ails a homer slump from an otherwise productive hitter. The Rockies were dead-last a season ago by a country mile in team ERA, sitting at 5.41 while the second-last Toronto Blue Jays posted a 4.82. That hasn't improved much early this season, with the Rockies second-last at 6.44. Much of that is due to allowing the most home runs (12).
This is another case when shopping is key, as the +425 offering for Machado to blast off through BetMGM is far more appealing than the +350 at Caesars.

Corbin Carroll sure seems to be dodging the slow start that plagued him last year, as he's been sprinting out with a 1.117 OPS that sits sixth in MLB.
Much of that effectiveness is a product of the hard-swinging lefty feasting on righties. That's not new for Carroll, but it's especially slanted right now with his astronomical 1.417 OPS against righties and .646 when facing a southpaw, with a difference of only nine plate appearances.
He'll spend a chunk of his evening opposing Chad Patrick, the inexperienced Milwaukee Brewers hurler making just his third career start. Patrick is another righty Carroll can pounce on, and he's already allowed two homers over 11 innings.
