The Philadelphia Phillies look to improve their MLB-best 41-18 record when the St. Louis Cardinals invade Citizens Bank Park on Sunday. The Phillies are one of the World Series odds-contenders. 

The first pitch for the contest is expected for 7:10 p.m. ET. The game airs on ESPN.

Nick Castellanos Under 1.5 total bases ⭐⭐⭐

Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos has been horrible this season. He's accrued minus-1 fWAR through 59 games, making him the second-least valuable hitter in baseball. His 75 wRC+ represents a career low, as does his .211 average.

It doesn't appear things will get any better, either, as his batted-ball data is disastrous. At least he's striking out less often than he did last year, probably the nicest thing you can say about Castellanos. 

Based on projections, things won't get any better for Casty on Sunday. We're getting roughly 8.5% positive expected value on his Under 1.5 total bases prop through these -150 odds.

Lance Lynn Under 5.5 strikeouts ⭐⭐⭐

Just because Castellanos isn't expected to do much at the dish doesn't mean the rest of the Phillies will roll over and suffer the same fate.

Philadelphia's lineup is loaded with talent. Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, and Edmundo Sosa all have a wRC+ better than 140, and Brandon Marsh, J.T. Realmuto, and Bryson Stott can cause pitchers issues with their baserunning ability.

For his part, Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn has been fairly solid in his first year back with the team that drafted him, owning a 3.45 ERA through 11 starts. However, his peripherals don't look especially impressive, and he's striking out his fewest batters per nine innings since 2017.

Lynn doesn't project to rack up many more punchouts on Sunday, as we're getting better than 8% +EV on this bet through these -140 odds.

Kyle Schwarber Under 1.5 total bases ⭐⭐⭐

Unlike Castellanos, Kyle Schwarber has actually been quite good in 2024. He's hit 11 home runs and ranks in the 97th percentile in average exit velocity and 96th percentile in hard-hit rate. Additionally, he's among the truly elite in terms of bat speed, ranking in the 99th percentile.

However, he's also incredibly streaky and prone to taking the walk of shame back to the dugout more frequently than most.

Additionally, Schwarber has strangely been a reverse-splits hitter this season, really struggling against right-handers like Lynn while punishing southpaws. His projections on Sunday reflect those issues.
