The Houston Astros (10-10) would move over .500 for the first time since the first series of the season if they can complete a three-game sweep of the MLB-best San Diego Padres (15-6) tonight. The Sunday Night Baseball first pitch from Daikin Park in Houston is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN).

Current Astros hitters have combined for 94 career at-bats against Padres starter Dylan Cease, but Jose Altuve is one of the only ones that has had success against the righty.

Many projected that Cease would bounce back from a rough start to the season, as his 3.83 xERA is much lower than his actual ERA (6.64). However, his strikeout rate is also down three percentage points from last season, and his 41.7% hard-hit rate allowed is on pace to be the worst of his career.

Cease has held current Astros hitters to a combined .138/.220/.201 slash line, and recorded a 26.6% strikeout rate in that span. However, Houston entered Saturday with the 12th-lowest strikeout rate, and it should run Cease’s pitch count high early. 

Cease has only completed six-plus innings in one of his four starts. Thus, there is tremendous value on the Under at +115 odds, especially compared to DraftKings’ +110 odds for the same wager.

Valdez faces a Padres lineup that has the lowest strikeout rate in the majors (17.5%). They are just as consistent making contact against southpaws, as that number remains at 17.5% in that split.

Valdez has seen his strikeout total drop in three straight starts. And in his three-strikeout performance against the Cardinals in his last outing, he only generated seven whiffs on 89 pitches.
