Houston is sliding right now, with its injury list starting to more closely resemble a grocery list. The Astros had won or split 12 consecutive series - including sweeps of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies - heading into the current home stand. Joe Espada's group is now on a four-game skid with losses to Cleveland and Texas.

The AL West juggernauts take the field tonight in hopes of avoiding their first five-game losing streak since April 2024, and their first such skid at home in more than two years. Houston hasn't been beaten five times in a row at home since June 15 through June 19, 2023, when the Mets, Nationals, and Reds lit up Minute Maid Park.

The Astros now turn to what's sure to be a ruckus crowd at the newly named Daikin Park, as well as veteran ace Valdez, to get back into the win column. Houston has won Valdez's last five outings, largely in part due to the Dominican posting three quality starts in that span.

Our Rangers vs. Astros prediction leans into those trends, as we expect Valdez to shine for a second time this season against Texas. He kept baseball's 24th-rated offense at bay back in mid-May, tossing seven innings of three-run baseball to go along with eight punchouts.

We'll take advantage of our best sports betting apps offering a generous price on the division leaders to win outright. In addition to the Houston moneyline, we're looking to Valdez's player props as our Rangers vs. Astros best bet.

A quick glance at Valdez's stats will have many questioning this four-star player prop. The 31-year-old has gone Over 18.5 outs at a 50% clip over his last 10 starts, including just one of his last five. However, it's his historical dominance of the Rangers that has us confident in this plus-money play.

This prop has hit at a 70% rate across his last 10 starts against Texas dating back to April 2022.

The Rangers are scoring just 4.04 runs per game this season - their lowest offensive output since 2021 - and they're allowing opposing pitchers to go much deeper into games. As such, we're playing this prop at DraftKings, the only one of our best sportsbooks offering Valdez's Over at a favorable price.

❓MLB betting FAQs

How do betting odds work?

Betting odds represent the probability of a specific outcome and determine how much money you can win on a bet. There are three main formats: American odds, Decimal odds, and Fractional odds. In the U.S., American odds are most common.

What is the run line in baseball?

The run line in baseball is a form of point spread betting unique to MLB. It typically sets a standard spread of 1.5 runs, meaning the favored team must win by at least two runs to cover the run line, while the underdog can lose by one run or win outright to cover.

What does moneyline mean in betting?

The moneyline in betting refers to a wager on which team or player will win the game outright, with no point spread involved. It’s the most straightforward type of sports bet—just pick the winner.
